July 2008 challenge - Pest & bug patrol (Bugs, kids - things that bother our pets)

any thoughts on a july thread?

Oh - I have a few ideas:

doggie picnics
eyes, paws or noses
fun in the water
playing with friends
dogs and cats together
dog's best friend
dog with a job (herding, obedience,hiking.......etc)
"leave me alone"
me and my dog(s)

How about Bug Patrol?
or Pets in Shades ? (although some may be scratched silly in the process!)
Or Best Hawaiian Shirt? (again injuries possible for us cat people!)
Or Hot Lazy Days ? (I mean who doesn't have nappers here?)
Or just plain old Time For Treats ? (Regular or ice cream etc...)

Those are all good ideas Sabine!
Does anyone have a list of previous photo challenges so that we don't overlap?
We also have to make the photo challenge cat friendly so I have a feeling that "fun in the water" is out of the question!?
I like the idea of "me and my pet(s)"

If you look at the main page of the Photo Challlenge forum you can see what the challenge was for previous months....

http://www.pets.ca/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=63

And, yes, the themes need to be cat friendly too.

I love the Bug Patrol idea kr!!!! Great thinking Heaven's knows there's lots around this year!

We have a lot of bug patrolling going on here, even as I type. Everything from mosquitoes to June bugs to butterflies...and horse flies big enough to scare even the Sheriff inside (Coley hates bugs!

I can get bug patrol pics...getting them posted might be another matter

up Might work if I can get enough bandwidth to email them. I've been limited to less than 100K downloads today. I have a bunch of stuff I can see if I go out to webmail, but I can't open any of it because of the connection Fat lotta good my email's doing me, eh?

Only if you show her how to post the pictures of you after she finds out!

I've got nothing on bug control - would vermin control work ?

Another theme:

Dogs and Cats.
Kids and their Pets
Lazy Summer Day
Quality Time
Upside down Pets

hazel try compressing them with winzip or winrar before you try to email them.

lol, i can definately pull of upside down pets.

They are bugs. Just of a bigger variety. Can't believe you live in a bug free zone. Where is it? We all might move there!!

Ok then how bout Pest Patrol... that covers bugs, vermin, other pets and children!!! (Especially the children!!!)

(Really I just want to get in a pic of Buddy and Asker playing "Whack-a-Moth" on the office window!!- Sometimes I come in here at night and turn on the light just so they can play!

Don't have those programs on my machine...which I am certain of because when people send me zipped files, I can't open them. Are they free downloads?

Ulterior motive!!!!

But I like "Pest Patrol" idea, too! Or "Varmint Vanquishing"

I like the pest control idea Both my dogs hate flies with a passion. Nothing can stand between Cody and his fly-hunting. Nova likes to kill ants... and dig up worms in the garden

Man!! I didnt have my camera the other day but Dazy smailed at me and her teeth were full of ants!!! Like a big ol'grill full of ants smiling up at me! LOL!!! Too funny!

Is this the theme for July? Pest control?

Am I the only one who thinks this is kind of gross? LOL....I'm very anti-bug But as long as we can take creative license with what counts as a pest I think it's a good idea!

Bugs are certainly gross! But also hours of entertainment (or minutes if they're quick) for our furry ones. Plus I think to the furry ones.... other furry ones and kids also count as pests most days!

Heck the way we always have a camera in their faces... I think we count as pests too!!

I really think that dogs and kids would be kind of cute.

I really like the bug patrol idea! I don't think I have any buggy/pest pics though, but would be fun to see all of yours! my lazy bums can't be bothered to get up from the couch for most bugs, and if they do bother, its usually a mean one that can do damage to them... i.e. wasp, hornet, stink bug. I've already taken my cat to the ER for a bee sting on the eye, so I tend to shoo them away from the big bad bugs now.

as for "pests" i'm usually too busy chasing the cat to get her to drop the mouse/mole/vole before she gets back into the house with it... no time to snap any pictures, lol

I think it'd be a great challenge though!

As long as it's bugs , please , no mouse

OK...seems like the bug - pest theme has the most support. Merging posts to make it official. Thx M

As far as bug-control goes: We do have bugs. Mosquitoes mostly and for the life of me I can't catch one with the cam.

So what's the theme going to be now ? Bugs and dogs ?

I got to dig a little deeper into my "archives" - both dogs are no longer with us, but their memories live on..........

My Standard Poodle Giaco looking for groundhogs and whatever my dane Daytona was looking for........no idea.

Frenchy, the Pack is putting a Toad Hunting Posse together and they want to know if Nelly wants to come! Macie says Nelly should bring some of those juicy-looking green bugs when she comes, too... Yum!

Sabine, I love the butts in the air shots.

Funny you should ask...I was videotaping her on a stalk last week and it ended rather sadly for the Swallowtail.

Sabine, I was gonna ask but forgot ...did Giaco ever find anything in the holes? He looks like he has his head in there pretty deep! He's braver than hazel is!

I once almost had a heartattack coming upon a groundhog while I was jogging--but to be fair, I think the groundhog's heart rate was up a little afterward, too! They can move fast when they want to!

Great pics, onster! Spiders seem to be one of those really fun entertainments that transcend species--dogs find them fascinating, too!

Mantises are neat...so are walking sticks! Cool bugs!

I doubt that my connection is gonna allow an upload that size for quite a while. Holding your breath till it comes would not be a good idea! But I'll see what I can do...

Thanks, jessi!

Yeah, the Pack wasn't quite sure what to make of Turtle. He wandered in the yard overnight and it was the first thing they found next morning. When I came around the corner, there they were, ringed around Painted Turtle, tails flared out along the circle, holding it at bay. Because, after all, Turtle might have tried to make a break for it! But they held it until Mom was able to get over there and rescue it from Pesky Setters...

Nope. I had no idea what they had surrounded at the time--I rushed down to check it out and then decided to play it safe and just rescue the poor beast. Ember came into the side yard with me to release it so he got to do a little more visiting with Mr Turtle.
