Oh Thank you!!
I took the advice of carrying the crate inside with Lindy in it. She is panting like crazy and very stressed!! It is 30 degrees in here. Did I screw up? This poor dog!!

No!

I got her on Wednesday. She has been in the house maybe 4 times. She has slept outside in her crate the last three nights. Everyone slagged(okay overexaggeration, everyone has been great) for keeping her outside.

That is very hot. Did you have her out walking? Do you have a fan you can set up for her?

Keep her quiet, set up a fan if you can, and make sure she has fresh water.

If she continues to pant heavily, seems agitated and stressed then the basement would be better for her until it cools off.

You could also try putting the leash on her and having her sit on the floor next to you if you're at the sofa. Just until she calms down.

I think a fan would be a good idea also. Give her some ice cubes to chew on.

I wouldn't (personally) carry her in the house while she is in the crate. That is probably what freaked her out. She felt completely helpless and maybe she was dropped/thrown from a height...you don't know her history.

She must have water. Have you given her a drink? Give her small drinks - not too much at once.

You carried the crate with her in it? Wow - you're strong.

Yes, doing that would most definitely stress her out!

Great stuff Freyja

I'd nix the carrying the dog inside while she's in the crate.

Just bring her in while on a lead using treats as bait like we discussed. All in time

I can't believe u carried her in like that man you have muscles!

Okay so, she came out of the crate, I put her on the leash, took her to the water, wouldn't drink. The water was just inside the back door, she wanted out, so we went out to the pee spot, did nothing, she willingly came back inside, no water, she came and sat down for two seconds and then started snifffing about again, all the while panting to beat the band. So outside again to the pee spot, no pee and now she won't come back in. Leashed at the back door with water right in front of her. There is no way I am going to get her back in her crate tonight is there?!?!?!?

Looks like we have the same problem. Jin ( He is a Jindo a Korean dog) sniffs ALL THE TIME inside and he wants OUT. He sleeps out , he eats out, he does everything OUT SIDE and is comfortable with it. I dont know why but he seems pleased. Maybe your dog is pleased being outside also? Im a noobie when it comes to dogs but this is just a thought.

To her she doesn't know what just happened, she is freaked out and feels safer in her 'known outdoors'

Go sit with her on the back porch or something, take a small treat with you and talk calmly to her.

Try not to force her to come to you, see if she comes naturally on her own. Pat her and talk to her calmly.

I would not put her back in that crate tonight, she's probably terrified of it right now. Feeding her in the crate will curb her fear of it but don't do that tonight...let her calm down. All of this is new to her as well and she doesn't understand it.

Has she had the opportunity to browse through the house and sniff it through an through yet?

How would you feel about letting her sleep in the house but not in the crate tonight?

For this particular dog, being lifted up while in the crate was quite traumatic and you need to let her calm down for now.

Is there a place you can put her for the night? You can start again with the crate tomorrow - coaxing her to go in with treats. And do not move the crate with her in it. Many animals get very frightened by this because to them, this a very unstable thing to happen while they feel so helpless.

She can't be left in the house unsupervised. I was sitting outside with her this aft and the phone rang, I left for 5 minutes and when I came back my book was chewed to shreds. Also, she peed downstairs yesterday.
She has been in, sniffed a bit and then led me right out again.
She is content sitting at the back door right now, off leash.
She slept in the crate at the Humane Society. They kept her in an outdoor run most of the time and brought her into a building and a crate at night.
