Smile Jemma's Turn.

Mona says Jemma might not be husky lab. We're hesitant to even consider other possibilities because she was our "sure" mix (since we don't know Boo's) and we don't like uncertainty.

So what do you all guess for Jemma's mix? She's very dominant, very vocal (she howls) and she runs like the wind. She also swims like a fishy- even if there aren't any toys. We got her up to 50km/h running a couple of years ago.

She's between 50 and 62lbs depending on the season and she's under 24 inches tall at the shoulder. She has really dense black fur (it's very hard to get to her skin and it takes her eons to dry). Her tail curls over her back too.

Any ideas?

LOL I couldn't get the first one, but I managed to get the website off the pic... That's what I think... She's even got the cat-like husky feets.

hmmmm, forget Jemma's photos, is that your "man" Prin? He's pretty darn good looking.

I definitely see the lab there for sure but the other part is hard to figure... quite honestly I've met several dogs recently with intense blue eyes and they've been Dane/Doberman or some other cross having nothing to do with the stereotypical Husky blue.

Well I can definately see the Lab in her.

As for the "howl",Tron will howl at times. And Nikko(friends Ch Dobie howls)..There was a Dobie up for adoption a while ago at my SPCA,she howled like crazy.

As for the eyes,I agree with BMD was saying. The blue eyes can fool you as to thinking there is Husky in a mixed breed.I posted quite some time ago about a Purebred Rottie that was up for adoption at the SPCA.What caught everyones attention is that he had whicked blue eyes like Jemma. And this was a Rottie. And like the pics of the Panda Shepherd, the one had the blue eyes also.

Hubby had a lab/husky named Levon. Now as soon as gets the scanner going,I will post a pic of Levon.

Jemma "could" have Husky, but I just don't see it.

Here is a full body pic of a Husky.

Maybe she is Lab crossed with Catahoula Leopard Dog. It could be where the blue eyes came from. The only thing I am not sure of is the tail. Would you say Jemma's tail is a labs tail, or does it curl to much?

Here are some Catahoula Pictures:

Obviously the coloring would be that a of a lab. If you read some of the personality characteristics of the breed, maybe it will help rule it out.

Just something to think about.

The thing for me that rules out a lot of doggies is her weight and her frame. She's tiny. Compared to a lab, she's very small boned and dainty. She's 50lbs, which is lighter than most labs (then again most labs are fatties..). And she howls ALL the time.
What are you looking at? "Roooooooo"...
Are you hungry? "Roooooo".
Leave me alone. "Rooooooo."
Come here "Roooo roooooooooo". Just to give you an idea.

She also, like I said before, has the cat feet- they're very compact. On the whole, she's very compact... Shave a husky and you get Jemma...

Maybe this will help with her size.... You all know how big dog beds are right? This one isn't excessively huge and look how tiny she is next to it. She's little. No dane in there... I think she's even too little for shep.

So maybe Lab/Border Collie??? Border collie's are quiet, but labs can be vocal. I was thinking b/c because of the curved tail and the blue eyes, it's not always a trait, but there are many w. blue eyes, also her girlish figure .

That's actually a very good query! I wouldn't have come up with it by myself but it does make sense... Although it doesn't explain the howling - perhaps she is a combination of all 3 like StaceyB says!

Maybe I'm crazy, but I'd go with your first instincts...Lab/husky

There are 2 lab/huskies at the dog park (and they're sure that's their mix since they know both parents...) that look pretty much exactly like Jemma. Same dainty size...and huskies howl alot, don't they?

Yes, they do. That's what I think too...

I don't see the bc in there... She's not herdy at all. She's more retrievery and aloof. Do border collies have the upturned tail? She's not nippy either (all the bc's I know are a bit nippy..)

Maybe this one will show her tail... (she's on the left) She has a very round hiney like the huskies I know have... I didn't think she'd be such a mysterious mix...
