I would try the police. Or animal control or SPCA. or all three. If that doesn't bring any results, go to the press (try to find a journo who is sympathetic to animal welfare).

I'm sure there are laws about keeping wild animals, or at least city/township by-laws.

Oh yeah definitely report this. I have a feeling it falls under Agriculture (provincial). Of course, the wallabies may have hopped off by then, there are plenty of Paris Hiltons and other deluded animal lovers to go around.
I once saw an elegantly dressed woman walking a leopard on the Avenue George V in Paris.

Agriculture Alberta - or whatever it's called - will have an emergency number. Worth a try (but don't expect too much).

It probably is legal for licensed zoos to buy them. I live in Ontario and I know a girl who collects different exotics. I don't the the laws here, but I believe that it can be possible to own exotics...you just have to have some type of license.

I totally agree with you, though. There's already enough of a problem with dogs and cats in this world. We don't need ignorant people breeding wallabies now.

another concern is if people buy them and keep them, but then they escape, this has happened in England http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/e...re/3613780.stm. But I don't know if they could survive a Cdn winter.

i will phone first thing on tuesday. i may try again today although i doubt anywhere will be open. if i try the SPCA they may know who i should call. i phoned animal control who said they had no idea but to phone the provincial people. hmm. tried but no answer. i wrote down the adds phone number just in case it isnt there anymore on tuesday.
I cannot see how it could be legal to own a pigmy wallaby in calgary.

I think you have to have special papers for exotic animals.
