Fishies

Man its hard taking a good pic of fish!! Crazy things!!! LOL Here is Sonic and Silent Bob, our Betta's (Siamese Fighting Fish). It doesn't show their colours very well Sonic is a beautiful shade of blue, and Silent Bob is golds and greens. They are very handsome when they have their fins all puffed out, but I guess they are a bit camera shy!!

Catt31,they still look beautiful!! There was a trend for a while to keep the Japanese fighting-fish in a vase with a plant,a friend of mine got one as a gift,he lived one week.
She did not think he needed to be fed, thought he lived off the flowers
I am curious about these beautiful creatures,do they always have to be kept solitary? How do they reproduce?

Catt, if you want a pic of them puffed up, put the bowls next to each other.

Chico, I had a betta too. They need what other fish need - clean water, oxygen and FOOD. They also need high temperatures.

The males must be kept apart, as they fight fiercely. They can be kept in a community tank, but you must be very careful what kind of fish you keep with them. They will attack any brilliantly coloured fish, like male guppies. Any kind of tetra will rip up the fins of the slow-moving bettas. In the Orient, people bet on the fights, hence the name "Siamese Fighting Fish".

To reproduce, the male builds a bubble nest on the surface of the water and then, in a very rough courtship, forces the female to lay her eggs. He then picks up each one and places it in the bubblenest and cares for them til they hatch. It's quite fascinating!

My friend has one in a vase with a plant too - she's only had him a few weeks, but seems to be doing ok. I guess they do when ya feed it eh?? LOL

Just the males have to be kept solitary - like LR said!!! They are beautiful to watch!!! So elegant and graceful (which is amazing in itself because they are MALE!!! LMAO)

They are pretty fish. I just got married on May 1,2004 and we used the fish and the fish vase and flowers as center pieces. We used on big vase and things to two 8 foot tables along with all the ivy and butterflies and candles. We ended up having 38 fish vase with fish and things in them we both a ton of food and than the people as they left the recetion could take a fish with them and a bottle of food. One of the ladies came and food me right before we left for our honeymoon and was like now why do I need this food if they eat the plant? I was like they still have to eat their food. She was like okay and they are all still alive. We took two of them home and named them Justin and Amanda. They are so pretty and they are easy to take care of. At first I felt sorry for them but they enjoy living by themslef. and if you put two of the male fish together than they will kill each other. My mom took two of them home and put them together and one killed the other one and started to eat the other one.
