Suggest medium sized dog for young boy.

Could anyone suggest a nice companion dog for an 8yr. old boy. Like it to be a medium sized dog that can live comfortably in the house. I'm leaning towards a short-haired fox terrier, because we prefer the clean cut look. (short hair, clean around the face, etc.)
Any ideas??

Lightbulb

I WOULD SUGGEST AN ENGLISH SPRINGER SPANIEL OR A BRITAINY SPANIEL. THERE BOTH SPORT DOGS SO THEY'RE EASY TO TRAIN AND THEY DONT GET THAT BIG (18 INCHES AT THE SHOULDER BLADES). I HAVE A GOLDEN RETRIEVER WHICH IS A LARGE DOG BUT VERY EASY TO HANDLE AND GREAT WITH CHILDREN. IT'S REALLY NOT THE SIZE OF THE DOG BUT HOW EASY IT WILL BE TO TRAIN AND ITS TEMPERAMENT. GOOD LUCK. I LIVE IN A CONDO AND MY GOLDEN IS PERFECTLY HAPPY.
