Red face Cookies the dog

Hi I am Gillian and would like some help. My dog is just 4 years old she is a cross bread when sold to me the paper work says cross Lab staffy but I feel she has whippet or something of that sort in her and probably many more. but I love her she is my baby. (no I don't dress her up or treat her like a child she is a dog) now she does seem to have arthritis problems with her front paws and is a very acidental dog. as a pup she had to have her high pad taken off as she ran into glass and sliced it. Last year she ran into a tree and was mms away from losing either her leg or life. she has been neauted but I find that she will sleep and when she wakes she looks so upset when I look where she has been layed it is wet. I know there are tablets we can use but is she incontinent or is she just a dirty dog? I would like help with this if any one can suggest help for me I would be greatful. over last 2 nights I have made her sleep downstairs but this morning when i came down she had done both on the carpet. Yet I was out walking her last night at 11pm. She doesn't drink very much and when she runs after her ball in the parks she still refuses to drink so I tend now to take her were there is a river thinking when she picks the ball up at least some water must be getting in to her system. I love her and don't want to give her up as she is my life but I can't live like this for 15 years or so. Please help me.

hi Gewlshie welcome It sounds as if cokkies has a medical problem
Have you talked to a vet I am not sure there is such a thing as a "dirty dog"
but something is up when she pees where she sleeps. Has this just starded or has she done this since you have had her?

Welcome to pets.ca gwelshie & RSMC .

Gwelshie, has your dog been spayed recently? Is her incontinence something recent as well? Perhaps it's just a urinary tract infection and can be cleared up with some anti-biotics. I suggest you get a urine sample into the vets to see what's going on. If it is indeed just incontinence, then there are medications available for that as well. Your vet is in the best position to be able to help you both.

In addition, I don't think river water is very good for her either. I don't know where you live but all kinds of bacteria and polutants can make her ill as well. Perhaps if you carry around a water bottle for her? She'll drink when she's thirsty.

Let us know what the vet says .

Definitely take her to a vet, gwelshie. They'll be able to tell you for sure if it's something like a UTI or spay incontinence--and both are easily treatable. I agree with LP--river water is likely not the best thing for her. As long as she's not dehydrating, she's likely getting enough water at home.

Good luck and please keep us posted on what the vet says!

And welcome RSMC! You'll get more responses, though, if you start another introductory thread. And both of you should start picking out your favorite pictures of your furbabies to share, cuz we're notorious for bugging newcomers for pictures!
