2nd opinion - vomiting dog

I have read all the threads regarding vomiting dogs and my dog is currently at the vets. I am looking for all second opinions I can get.
HISTORY - My dog has been vomiting for the last 3 days every 6 to 12 hours, vomit is yellow, slimey no foam. I started fasting him 2 days ago. Blood tests show nothing unusual. A bladder infection was confirmed by the urine test but does not explain vomiting. All organs checked, liver, kidneys, prostate, heart and all are normal. Dog is acting completely normal, stool was normal. Has appetite (though he has been fasting and on fluid IV for last 36 hours and threw up once). Barium test all good, passed through and no obstuctions found. Xray showed a "blur" in his stomach whcih doctor thought might be from stomach contacting.
QUESTION: Vet has advises that will need exploratory surgery if next vomiting continues after IV treatment. After all the bood, uring, xray and barium turning up nothing but a bladder infection, what else are they looking for? I am uncomfortable submitting my dog to "exploratory" surgery if they are not sure what they are looking for. Any opinions welcome and appreciated.

Has a blood test been done to rule out pancreatitis?

what are the Lipase and Amalayse (Spelling) levels? do you know

Blood test was done for pancreatis and that was ruled out. We are going to check on him in about an hour so I will ask about the Lipase and Amalayse. Thank you!

It's possible for there to be something that does not show up on X-rays, if it's soft or porous. Sometimes tumours"hide" from x-rays. How old is your dog?


Unfortunately, sometimes exploratory surgery is the only way to find out what the problem is.

My first thought was something that doesn't show up on xrays. I heard of a dog who had swallowed the plastic squeaker from a toy, and though it didn't show up, they saw a mass...they did surgery & found the squeaker lodged in the stomach wall (I think) and the tissue was growing around it.

My second thought was irritable bowel disease, but I don't think that comes on this suddenly.

Thanks so much everyone - The vomiting link is now in my bookmarks. Dog is now o.k. and coming home. Still need to ask what cause was but I'm a very happy mom...

they did Xrays and the only thing that showed up was a "blur" in his stomach which was attributed to his stomach contracting. Without doing an endoscopy to confirm, they firgure it was "something" that irritated his stomach. His behaviour never changed throughout and he is still trying to figure out why we haven't given him a treat since he's been home. We are much more watchful when he is out and about, and the tests eliminated more serious causes (we hope). He's home where he belongs....
