Walking away after getting a treat
Lately I've been noticing that whenever I give Levi a bone or big treat, he'll take it gentle from my hand and then go into the hallway or about 3 metres away and lay down and eat it. If I went to take it (not that I would, but for testing purposes) he would let me have it.
I was just curious why he does this? ...Just because he wants to eat it alone?

Justice does the same thing ... takes a treat and walks away. provided she is not being trained, then she stays right there
Not sure why she does that though, as she does prefer to eat her food with the rest of the family. Looking forward to seeing other responses... |

I think they like to devour with a little privacy, and no dstractions.

Not sure why they do this, Shadow also takes her treats a few feet away to sit and eat them. Halo on the other hand just swallows em down whole in front of you. Shadow is much pickier, and prefers smaller bites so I think she just wants to step away undisturbed to check out what she got and then chew on it.

My dog, aka Cookie Monster, would not have time to walk one foot away as he inhales his cookies in a second.

Hazel walks away, goes outside or swallows the treat whole depending on what kind of a treat it is. If it's something small, she swallows it whole and stares at you for another (reminds me of the little birdies with their mouths open all the time ) If it's something that'll take her a minute to chew on, she'll go to her bed to eat it. If it's something that's going to take her awhile (a greenie, a pigs ear or a pb filled kong) she'll take it outside, get comfortable, and then go to work on it.

In all honesty I just think it's a "okay thanks... I'll go eat this now" type of thing. My dogs always did that...even Maximus does it- since he's very little. I think of it like this... when you were a kid- if someone gave you a new toy you didn't plop on the floor at their feet to play. You would usually go to another room even, just for some personal playing time. I think they just want some personal chewing time. Especially being pack animals... if they find the good bone they don't want anyone else to steal it!
