I was happy he finally came over--the jays around here are mighty flighty. Very shy as a rule.

Hazel,I have lots of Blue-Jays,stealing peanuts from the Squirrels, they love peanuts in the shell.
I have seen them too many times raiding my bird-houses,to really love them, but that's nature.
The Jays are after all from the Crow-family and I love my Crows, with the new babies,I now have seven.

Any time, LP. hubby is getting very sick of bird pics so I had to find a new audience!

7 crows that come to the food you put out, chico? That must be fun to watch! I love jays and crows, too! They're so dang smart!!

Yes Hazel, this morning I gave them fat I had removed from our steaks+peanuts, they love peanuts/.
It is funny to watch the babies(as big as the parents)they are afraid of the food, until the parents show them it's ok.

We have both crows and ravens here, but they only rarely get close enough to watch from the house. I used to see more crows when I lived in the city!

Great shots, Hazel. I love the Blue Jays, they are so darn pretty.

I don't like the crows or red wing black birds, they hog the bird feeders and don't let the chick a dees, nuthatches or cardinals eat

We aren't in typical habitat for red-winged blackbirds, but this year we had a couple males and at least one fem. Because they're so outnumbered at the feeders, they tend to be on their best behavior. And the crows don't come at all No starlings or grackles to speak of, either. So we don't really have too many problem birds at the feeders. (Hope I didn't just jinx us! *sounds of madame hazel furiously running through her anti-jinx routine*)

I love the gray jays, too, NG. Not too many in this part of WI, though--we see more of them up in Forest and Florence counties in the NE part of the state.

Chico!!!! You stole his leftover pizza and gave it to the crows?!? I hope you warmed it up a bit for them, first!

IMO, chico, being able to convert your spouse to a bird watcher is one of the best indicators of a strong marriage!

Well, it works for me, anyway.

After 45+years with an animal-lover,he's learned to see the beauty in things,he's the one who takes care of the feeders and reminds me every day that"the Crows are here!"
Today we counted TEN Crows, which is great

Beautiful pictures of a beautiful bird....but the ones we have hanging around our feeders, seed block and bird bath or quite the bullies of the neighborhood. Fortunately most of the little birds just fly off and right back - guess they aren't as intimidated as the jays would like. LOL

I've heard a lot of complaints about bullying jays, Diane, but we rarely see it here. Maybe because they're outnumbered by the other birds--for instance, right now the rose-breasted grosbeaks are claiming the feeders:
