Hello from Toronto

Hi everybody.

I'm new to this forum. The reason I've joined this forum is because my wife and I are looking into purchasing a Cavachon puppy. I'm looking for reputable breeders/places in the GTA area or even in the niagara region. If anyone has any suggestions of positive/negative experiences with these breeders, please let me know. I know to avoid BYB, puppy mills and Pet shops. I'm looking for resources that will help me find a health puppy as a new addition to the family.

Thanks.

Hello Private, welcome to pets.ca .

I'm not too sure you will find a reputable breeder who breeds breed mixes . It's my understanding reputable breeders don't breed designer dogs. If you look up petfinder.com, search Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Bichon Frise...you may be lucky and find some mix puppies/dogs.

I'm with lucky on this one.

Absalutely no reputable breeder breeds mixes. And those who do are BYB's..They just put fancy names to "mutts" and charge an arm and a leg.

Check out petfinder or the shelters....

Never Heard Of That Breed Before . Mabey Try A Shelter They Tend To Have Certain Breed Mixes And I Do Know The Shelters Tend To Have Really Healthy Animals

If you're willing to be patient and keep checking back with shelters and rescues you will be able to find the mix you'd like without supporting backyard breeders. On another message board I visit there was once a thread with lots of pics, asking people if they could tell the designer dogs from the shelter dogs. Pictures were posted in sets of 2 similar looking dogs and of course the pics weren't labeled which was which. Apparently the majority of people mistakenly thought the shelter mixes had come from byb's and vice versa. I can't remember what all "breeds" they included, but for sure they had some doodle or other (labradoodle, golden doodle or something), puggle etc.) Maybe if the shelters started calling them by their "designer" names more would get adopted but then again, that would likely only encourage the byb's.

Oh yes, one other thing. Don't fall prey to the misconception that all rescue/shelter dogs are adults with baggage. Though there are many adult dogs needing loving homes, puppies do come along as well. You just have to keep checking and be patient, not want a puppy like yesterday. Of my 7 dogs 5 have come through rescues as puppies, ranging from 6 weeks to 3 months of age. And if you rescue you'll be doing a great thing for a pup in need.

ETA: Almost forgot to also say hello
