At first feeding he got pedialyte as that is all I had 2nd one was pedialyte and 3rd Esbilac puppy Milk replacer

Esbilac Puppy Milk Replacer my friend is a cert animal re-habber and at moment is doing same thing with one he found that what he recommended & used in the past. (As well he will get some carrots/cucs/seeds as he is old enough to have.

Named Spaz due to his killing of the glove when I go to feed/touch him.

About 6wks or so guess-timite (Grey squirrel)

he may have company tomorrow (2 more still up tree Siblings)

Lil' Spaz is looking good DM, we re-habbed a baby squiggie from 3 days old and successfully re-integrated him into the wild again. We used a bottle to feed him which he eagerly used to grab. If this little guy is able to eat solids maybe you could try giving him shelled pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds, I did that with the last one I re-habbed.

Melinda is logged in, maybe she has some tips for you

Not to be a pain.. but you can't rehab a squirrel in TO without the appropriate wildlife permits eh..

http://www.torontowildlifecentre.com...uirrel.html#q1

I tried to raise baby robins last week unsuccessfully. TO rehab won't take songbirds.. and there are limited vets in the GTA with the appropriate permit to even PTS dying wildlife, let alone help with them.

You are right mafiaprincess, Legally you can't, but that doesn't mean you can't. Most wildlife centres will not take a lone squirrel. Looking at that little guy, I would think that he will be big enough to go out searching on his own in a short time.

When we rehabbed our first squirrel, once he was big enough, we prepared a safe haven for him on our patio and when we were outside took him with us and introduced him to his haven and little by little he began exploring, until he chose to sleep outside, then little by little he took off to live in the trees. In the morning I would go out and call him and he would come for his goodies all the time becoming more feral....I'm not saying that all cases can be worked out like that, just that it is possible.

mafiaprincess..I am technically not in Toronto (York Region)

and the vet in town deals with wildlife has permits etc and has successsfully rehabbed them himself back into the wild.

So no worries.

Tx chris Spaz is asleep after lunch feeding comfy in his cage.

Also Chris that is what my friend suggested too same way of reintroduction for him

you are doing right so far, do they have access to heat that they can "roll" off of if it gets too warm? are you stimulating them to pee? they look at the age where they were about to be weaned, you can buy squirrel blocks at feed stores to start them off, also if you could find some apple branches for them to "test" and trim their teeth with......the release is a long process but you don't need to have that all piled on you right now....

Diamondsmom, hope you get the other 2 also, little Spaz looks about the same size as the ones I have here, maybe a little smaller.
Who really cares if you are allowed to or not, these babies need saving and that's all there is to it.
I found a really wee one one year, his siblings were dead, found headless on my lawn.
I could not care for him,but a friend of mine did,she started feeding him baby Pablem(right spelling?)sunflower-seeds etc ,but later found the proper feed.
As he grew, she would let him outside, kept the patio-door open for him to come back in,but one day he just left and joined the Squirrel-world.
Good Luck, they are adorable and thank you for caring

The other lil ones are no longer there Neighbour has kept a eye on the nest all day. No sign (hubby went up the tree & confirmed tree is empty) I hope someone else may of picked them up too. before she got up today.

Melinda

1) Yup heating pad is under cage partly for warmth he prefers to snuggle in the towel and curl up in then the heating pad.

2) Normal bowel & peed on me while I was feeding him (I had "tickled him" just prior to feeding and again after)

3) I have hard bark we had used in the cage prior to this lil guy & he chews it

4) yup cleaning his face after feeding

will look at squirrel blocks sure also has sunflower seeds (unsalted)

chico I totally agree & thank you on the good-luck

the other two possibly struck out on their own, they are at the proper age for that and will probably return at dusk each night for the next few weeks to their "second" nest.

Awwwww so cute!

I know the Bowmanville vet (close to the bowmanville zoo) takes in and cares for orphaned and injured wildlife. They are really nice there.

First I have to say what a cute...but I have to ask: How come you think that the mother as died? Did you see a squirrel on the road, near the tree that the nest was in? And just assume that it was the mom? Or did you actually see mom get hit by a car or did you see if she was trapped and taken away? What about fleas on the baby squirrel.

If you know for sure the mom as died, I commend you for taking care of these guys.

True. And you have to know what you are doing. And just because it says on the internet, doesn't make it accurate. And you could be doing more harm then good. Just because their bellys are big and full, doesn't mean that they are getting the proper nurtrition, to be healthy and stronger. The internet is the worst...so much false information.

Aco22... We indeed seen mom get hit/runover by a Dumptruck  She actually dodged a front-end loader. (our street is under going major construction) And the neighbor buried her in the yard. Neighbour had been watching the mom & babies since She first started building nest.

Flees were few & bathed her in Dawn just a teeny tiny bit & think I got them all. She actually loves the bath I use a tupperwere to do it.

Dont want to be overun here by flees.

She does have a injury but only time will tell if she can recover.

for little Spazzy
I have about 5 little babies running around in my backyard, they are here in the morning and then later in the day.
They don't need rescuing they seem to be doing fine at my feeding-corner.
They are so much fun to watch..

my family adopted a baby squirrel when i was growing up. she was very young when we got her and we named her pearl. she grew up loving people and being a part of the family, riding on our shoulders and sleeping under our necks. domestic squirrels are great pets, i would LOVE to have another. good luck with yours, i am sure you will reap the benefits and fall in love!!

nanama, no wild critter should be kept as a pet, the odd exception is if one is so injured it cannot be returned to the wild.

With deepest sadness & regret .. Spazzy passed away early this morning..

She had been fine all day and after dinner She was asleep I checked on her about 9pm to find she had moved off her heating pad & was in the corner of her cage.. I immediately started to warm her, and she started to have what we think are seizures. I got great advice/help from the squirrel board but lost my net at about 3am..

She passed away about 7am... I have no idea what went wrong.. As we were sopposed to be going back to vet today at 10:00am..
