Unhappy Burlington, ON Lost Orange & White Male Cat, short-haired

I'm new here, and sorry to be asking for help, in my first post, but...

We've lost our "Eskie", a 4 yr old orange and white male short-haired cat. His most distinguishing marking is a thin white marking that runs from the top of his forehead to his nose. He will start purring as soon as you talk to him or touch him (unless he's too frightened by now).

He was last seen in the house @ 10 am Thanksgiving Monday on Cavendish Dr. (closest cross street, Melissa)

He is an indoor cat, and we're terribly worried about him... he is such a sweetie, and we miss him.

I can't seem to figure out how to upload a picture file.

Could you please help by looking around your yard for him, and keeping an eye out as you travel the neighborhood?

We will provide a reward to anyone who finds our boy.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this!

Beth

Beth, like we always say and it has proven to be true,an indoor cat does not go very far from home.
Check all your neighbors backyards,bushes,garages..go out at night when things are quieter, with his favorite treat, bring a flashlight,as the first thing you'll see is the cats eyes,if he's hiding in a bush.
Print out posters plaster them everywhere, visit all the shelters in Burlington, often a phonecall is not enough, put posters in vet-offices.
That's all I can think of for now, good luck finding him,I am 99,9% sure he is not far from home.

Are you sure he is not locked up in the house somewhere?

Indoor cats are very scared if they get outside and rarely will wonder far. Some are even too afraid to come out during the day when their owners call them. Best time to look is at night and very early morning. Take a flashlight to shine in bushes and under structures, so you can see the reflection of a cat's eyes.

If you can leave something of his and an worn shirt of the person who was closest to Eskie in your back yard (even some of his kitty litter). Check through out the night.

Ask your neighbours to check under their decks and in their sheds. My parents had a neighbour's indoor only cat under their deck for 5 days. It came out just before sunrise and was peering into my parents basement window, then ran back under their deck.

You can also try a humane trap, they can be rented sometimes from the HS or a rescue, put in his favorite foods and even tuna or sardines. It took us a couple of weeks but that is how we caught my friends indoor cat this summer. They get scared when they get out, and in George's case he never strayed far from the hedge right next to her house. Make sure you go out every night and look, it's also good to sit still on the ground near where he might hide and talk to him, the sound of your voice and your smell will keep him near. & that he comes home soon!

You know, he is probably hiding somewhere close by, since he has only been gone 24 hours. Now's the time to spring into action.

Put a box on your porch with his blanket or a family member's unwashed T-shirt. Maybe a little food, fish if possible, it's smellier. I would blanket your immediate neighbourhood with posters carrying his picture and Have you seen our cat? and multiple copies of your phone number that people can tear off (I always swear I'll remember the number and hardly ever do). You could put 'reward' - it might help, although I wouldn't mention the amount. If you see your neighbours outside, tell them he's missing and give them a poster. If they have garages or sheds, ask them to check that he isn't trapped somewhere.

After dark tonight, when most people have gone inside, get out there with a flashlight, which picks up cats' eyes (unless it's wildlife ) and more food or treats, and walk around the neighbourhood calling and listening. He may meow when he hears your voice and be too scared to come all the way to you, so the listening part is important.

Good luck! Believe me, he's as worried about his situation as you are.

Found "Eskie", thanks so much

Chico and Love4himies, thank you so much for the quick and helpful response.

I swear we had been in the basement at least 20 times between the three of us, but I went for one last check, and he answered when I called. He had himself trapped in a stacked bedroom suite we have in the basement.

We normally don't let them down there, but I'll have to find a way to open that up.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Badger, thank you

Thank you Badger, for taking the time and trouble to post your helpful reply...

You were probably posting at the same time I typed my message that I had found him trapped in the basement (on probably the 20th search down there).

You folks are great, and I think I've found a site I will want to participate in.

Blessings,

Beth

krdahmer, thank you

Thanks so much for the great advice about finding a cat outdoors... I hope I never need it, but I sure won't forget it.

I did find Eskie, as you've probably read by now, but I'm so grateful for the time and trouble you took to reply.

Thanks again,

Beth

Thanks BenMax

You know, I always feel like things happen for a reason.

I would never have found this spot without Eskies little adventure.

Thank you so much for the warm welcome!

Maybe he found something of interest and couldn't resist but to stalk it

I am so glad you found him . Not sure why I had the feeling he was in the house still, just something that went through my head while I was reading your post, strange.

Would love to see pics of your baby Pleeeeaaaase.

A picture of Eskie

Here's a (not too great) pic of Eskie... but I wanted to put one up quickly, to thank you all for being so wonderful with me today.

I've attached the pic, and I hope this works... smiles.

I am happy to see that you found your cat. You might want to get a collar with a name tag, just in case he ever gets lost outside.
