neutering complication
My 4 year Alaskan Malamute was neutered a week ago, yesteday we took him back to the vet because his scrotal sac was very enlarged. He was sent home with antibiotics as well as pain medicine and he is to go back this thursday for surgery. Upon reading other posts most say that this problem should go away on its own with the help of warm and cold compresses. Does anyone know why they would perform surgery other than maybe inserting a needle to relieve pressure?

I can't answer this question for you, but am sorry your boy is having complications. Sending possitive vibes your way for Thursday. Keep us posted how it goes. I have two three month old Malamutes a male and a female. I'll be watching to see how your boy does.

The area is so vascular that swelling isn't an uncommon side-effect. What exactly does the vet want to do in the surgery?
Our Cole had a lot of edema after his neuter--we used cold compresses for a while, then had some of the sera extracted via needle to reduce the swelling. After that, it resolved pretty quickly. I think I'd be leery of more surgery without a very good explanation of what's going on and what the vet intends to do. Btw, the needle extraction of fluid was done during a regular appointment visit...
