This food is much better than Iams. Human grade ingredients, balanced Omega 3/6. If you are looking for a food in this price range, I like the calories per cup, and the quality of ingredients. The manufacturer makes better foods, but better foods = more $$$$$$.

I don't like that the rice isn't named- if it's not white or brown, chances are it's just scraps. And it has a lot of rice, as you can see by them breaking it into parts (ground rice, rice bran) and same for the barley.
Citric acid can lead to bloat in deep chested dogs (some small dogs are deep chested) especially when the food is moistened with water. Menadione is a synthetic vitamin K (vitamin K3) that has been banned from human consumption. It creates free radicals in the body which can lead to tumors, cancers, etc. With a good antioxidant (like vitamin E) the effects would be lessened. There are a lot of dog food companies who have removed menadione out there that aren't necessarily that expensive. Canidae is an example. www.canidae.com |

AAFCO definition "ground rice"
is the entire product obtained in grinding the whole rice including hulls" None of the products made by these guys contain Menadione anymore, same for citric acid. I checked after reading posts here and at dog food project. Last edited by gypsy_girl; February 13th, 2007 at 12:39 PM. Reason: speling (yikes) |

It's not really bad but it's the bottom formula of what Petcurean makes. If price isn't an issue I would pick their Go Natural formula.

thank you.
I emailed petcurean and they told me they only use vitamin k, no menadione... and as much as it shouldnt be price is a bit of a factor, the summit food is about 25 percent cheaper than the iams which is a plus for me, now come to think of it maybe ill upgrade to one that costs nearly the same..but 35 pounds for 30 dollars canadian plus being a better for for my baby its really a no brainer for me to at least move up to summit.
Thank you all...any more feedback would still be appreciated Last edited by MARTYnBENTLEY; February 13th, 2007 at 08:30 PM. |

What about Canidae? I've heard it's not too expensive either and it's meatier...
But yeah, it's definitely a step up from Iams. |

Summit
Not in this formula, this is the Advance, as opposed to the Originals.
Some of the "originals" formulas have salt (as per the label) |
