Roscoe's Brothers - Charlie & Honey Bear

Charlie is a beautiful Golden/Lab mix, age 2 - adopted from our daughter when she had to move West. He's a treasure! Honey Bear is just a plain ole Manx who thinks he's a dog. That's all right though because Roscoe acts like a cat most of the time anyway. I think our family gives new meaning to the term 'dysfunctional'!

We're a goat rodeo - without the goat!

They are cute and they are sweet but they are definitely characters. My first three were my 3 Black Muttsketeers, now we're leaning toward the fawn colors - not by our choice - we don't get a choice - they just show up and say Hi Mom, Hi Dad!

Beautiful animals - and I must say it is nice to hear of someone else who has a Manx - Shadow, my boy, is a rumpy. Is yours rumpy, stumpy or tailed?

Manx are just so special - well, ok, so far all cats are special but there's something about a Manx that is so different from other cats - and I truly believe they are all characters! Does yours like water? My first Manx did - Shadow doesn't seek it out but he will walk through water.

Honey Bear, a character? Yes! Sigh, he thinks he's a dog. He loves ice cubes! All four dogs and he gather at the frig when we are getting a glass of ice water. We have to give each of them an ice cube and when Honey Bear gets his he will hunch down, dart his eyes around to see where the mongrels are and then GROWL to let them know this is HIS ice cube. He then struts off with it in his mouth, usually dropping it. That's when the fun starts as he turns into an NHL player and it's anybody's guess as to who will end up with it. Like I always say, it's just a goat rodeo around here - minus the goat of course!

His only experience with water is when the ice cube melts down his chin! So far no full baths, just sponge offs (which he feels is beneath his dignity!)

Now I'm 'stumped' - on the Manx thing. He has no tail, but he does have this 1" nubbin that sticks up right off his tail bone. Adds a bit of pomp to his strut! So is he a stumpy or a rumpy?

LOL!

Sounds like he is a stumpy. Rumpy Manx have a little "dent" where the tail would normally be. Stumpy Manx have a little stump of a tail... ergo - stumpy... Have no idea where these terms came from. My Shadow is a rumpy ... here's a pix

It's hard to tell about the stumpy - but he's a beauty!

Chico2 - Shadow is a Manx - but he is crossed with something - I'm thinking Siamese. Shadow does not have the Manx head but he does have the Manx nose - very broad and flat. His hind legs are very long and he does do the Manx hop. He is called Manx because he is naturally taillless but, as I say, I'm sure he isn't full Manx. Our last cat - Bones - was full Manx and he was a character extra-ordinaire too!

Truthfully, I don't have clue as to his lineage - other than I have seen both his mom and dad and they both fit the description of the Manx. I've done a tiny bit of online research today and discovered that we probably would be shot at sunset for calling them Manx unless we have papers for them. But I did come across one thing that really convinced me that Honey Bear has at least some Manx in him!

The Manx is a very friendly, affectionate, and playful cat as a rule. With its powerful hind legs, it can jump higher than one would imagine. Some Manx cats bond with an individual or a family and has difficulty when placed in a different home and some readily accept attention from any human. The Manx often exhibits very dog-like behavior. It might play "fetch", growl at an unidentified disturbance, or follow it's owner around.

I've never had a cat act more like a dog than this one does! And even at only 6 months he takes 6' leaps without even thinking twice! He follows me everywhere - comes when we call his name. He just doesn't have an aloof bone in his body - very loving and snuggly! Bottom line, he is who he is - and that's fine with me!

Very good looking fur family you have. The first pic of Honey Bear is adorable. And, I love the one of him straddling the fence.

Baby Pix of Honey Bear

Thanks all for your comments - we all are a bit enamoured of him, you can tell! He's our first kitty (we just married in Dec 2003) and I sort of, kind of ...er ah... sneaked him into the family - because my hubby is a doggie person. But you should see the two of them together - true love! Course what's not to love - he's just plain goofy! Enclosed is a baby pix of him - probably why we fell so hard!
