Question Cat sick I think? need help soon....

My 13 year old male cat has been sleeping alot this past week and staring at the couch cushion for a few minutes before laying down.....well last night he would not open his eyes or respond to me even after I laid him down on me - His nose & ears were very warm, nose was runny and he sounded as if he was having problems breathing. When he did open his eyes his left eye wouldn't open fully and seemed cloudy. He is just very out of it. Not jumping up and down very well either.
He has never been sick in any way and had his shots this past Sept. 2002.
Could he have a cold and should I bring him to the vet?

He ate some soft food this morning and drank a little water but nothing like he normally does.

Exclamation

Carrie,

I would be worried if I were you, and I would bring the cat in as soon as possible.

Although it could be a cold, It could also be many other things...some of which are extremely serious.

Don't take a chance!

U.F.

Fester is right. Take your cat in ASAP, take him to an emergency clinic if you have to. Cats and respitory problems do not mix well.

Some of the symptoms you described kind of sound like a stroke, but I've not known strokes to be accompanied with breathing difficulties or nasal discharge.

Smile Thank you !!!

Thank you so much for replying Unclefester and KittyKat. I did take him to the vet yesterday and it was the start of a respiratory infection. He had a fever but had improved a little - I have gotten antibiotics and he has been taken them since last night - He was definitely more himself this morning. I will be giving him the medicine for the next 7 days but calling the Vet on Friday to give him and update on his progress - he wanted to try this first rather than spending tons of money on blood work that might not be needed.....
Again thank you so much for replying.....
Take care!!!!
