clm - Rose of Sharon basically are Hibiscus. The Hibiscus is a larger flower than what we think of as Rose of Sharon. You grow marvelous Hibiscus. You had a thread with those the other day. Both plants are beautiful. There is a little info on the vesey's site which might be helpful to you. http://www.veseys.com/ca/en/learn/gu...s/roseofsharon

Chico - I do have a white Rose of Sharon. I found it hiding among a bunch of other colours up in my front garden. I will have to try to get some seed off of it.

clm,I planted mine late last summer, the only bush I could find in the store.
I had a beautiful bush in the spot before, with burgundy leafs(Cherry something)and it was killed by some weird bugs. I stuck the Sharon in it's place and it grew.. You see them everywhere,so they must be easy to grow, mine is in the front against the wall of the house, gets morning sun.

I know, I see Rose of Sharon growing everywhere, they're supposed to be dead easy to grow. I know their also the shrub type of hardy hibiscus, but I still can't grow the darn things. My parents have some that are over 20 feet tall and are in full bloom right now, they are a sight to behold.
The perennial hardy hibiscus thrive in my yard, it's stupid I know. I haven't given up yet. I just feel bad killing plants. Chico2, that double variety is realy different. I ususally just see the singles, but the double is really pretty. Cindy |
