Gryphon just got sprayed by a skunk!

Oh Man--it happened again!

Gryphon found a black and white kitty that he thougth would be fun to play with during his last outing!

I just spent the last hour giving him a peroxide, baking soda and shampoo bath. Fortunately the little guy loves having baths

So now he smells all nice and fresh but my whole house smells like skunk

Well, at least Gryphon was enjoying himself

The upside is, skunk scent is good for the sinuses--clears them right out--and has a positive effect on the symptoms of asthma! No! REALLY!!! I can attest to the latter--I always breathe better around skunks.

Many years ago when I worked as a nanny.....the couple were selling their house & the night before the realtor was coming to show the house to some people, a skunk sprayed in the backyard right by the basement door I was told by the realtor I had to leave the basement door open so they could come & go from the yard through the basement too bad I didn't get to see the couples faces when they went down there

A few years ago, my Shadow found herself a skunk to play with.

She got all of the spray in her face, down her throat etc. I will never forget the look on her face. It tooooook a long time for the smell to leave her breath. I am sure I still smelled skunk in the house for 6 months. But everytime I asked someone if they could smell it, they said no.

I can laugh about it now.

I've never been near a freshly skunk sprayed dog but I hear it smells like a bad mix of chemicals and not really like a skunk at first?

Eewh -- that smell

K--So I go into my office this morning and the first thing my fellow collegues smelt was---skunk

I just got home from playing Walleyball, worked up a sweat and the only thing I could smell while playing was--skunk

A friend of mine told me to take old fashion charcoal briquets and place the bag where it smells the most. I put the bag of charcoal out in our back porch where Gryphon sat while bathing him and I can't get rid of the smell.

He smells fine--the rest of my family stinks Name: sad0002.gif

Well if you only knew Gryphon Angeldogs---He enjoys anything--breathing or not

He's been sprayed three times in less than a year. My mother & father in-laws live 2 doors up and they had a bad bout with skunks so they bought this contraption to rid of their skunk problem and well...yeah...guess where they ended up?

Skunks or porcupines ...some dogs never learn.

Wash all your clothes, etc with bleach and try this for the house smell ....

I have used it about 6 or 7 times (skunks are numerous out here!) The relief lasts until the next skunk sprays. And, yes, it's powdered cinnamon that I use, but I suppose the sticks would work as well. I usually bake it about 1 hour, then prop the over door open to make sure it permeates the house. I don't know why it works, but I am certainly glad it does!

I'm thinking of putting some in the oven just for the scent of cinnamon! Why wait for skunks? We love the sweet spicey scent of cinnamon!!

So I set the oven with the cinnamon in it last evening. My kitchen smelt very warming When my oldest daughter came home this morning, she thought I made cinnamon rolls

When I came home from work this evening and stepped into my house--Mr. Skunk smell said "HELLO" Name: High smiley.gif

It's hard to tell right now cause we're all use to it but my back porch is still pungent with odor. Started spraying Lysol and Febreeze out there as I think with the smell being so strong out in the porch that it's leaching into my kitchen and the rest of my house.

Cinnamon is in the oven and Apple Custard candles are burning--I can only hope

Supposedly vinegar placed in bowls around the house is supposed to absorb the skunky smell.

Well 14+--I'm at my wits end. I'm going to place a couple of bowls of vinegar upstairs in our bedrooms (near the heat vents) to help up there. The main floor is starting to come back a bit.

MAN....this is SOOOO crazy! Gryphon has been sprayed twice before but it wasn't this bad I think he actually tried to paw down into their dwelling. He never got it on the nose or neck--it was all up his left paw (I taught him how to be a south ) and on his belly.

My poor daughter can smell skunk when she opens her locker door at school. The sad thing is that she keeps her back back and books up in her room behind a closed door--go figure

Next step.....vinegar

I hope the vinegar works--we've used bowls of it just to get odors out of the house, but we haven't had to deal with anything nearly as strong as skunk *sounds of hazel rapidly running through her anti-jinx routine*

I suppose Gryphon thinks everything smells just hunky-dorey...

That might work! At least he'd be so busy licking off the butter that maybe he'll miss the next black-and-white 'kitty' entirely.

No...well. Gryphon being Gryphon, I'll butter him up so he can reach his left paw further into Mrs. Skunks hole

At that point, I may just let him take shelter with with her and all her kittens

He's such a nut

OUCH Hazelrun--not a happy thought.

Well the house is smelling MUCH better now. Even our porch it too

I went to Wal-Mart and bought some flameless candles with the scented oils and have them light all over the place

Thanks to all the forum buddies, I think I might be better prepared for Gryphon's next skunk sighting

I'm glad things are improving. It is an extremely persistent odor...
