The Hazel Run Feeders are hotbeds of activity!
So many visitors this year!
The juncos are flocking in... ...as are the white-throated sparrows. If the snow holds off, we'll have juncos on and off most of winter, but the sparrows are still on their way south and will be gone in another week or so.

The purple finches (Mr on the left, Mrs on the right) are showing up regularly for the sunflower.
Pesky Red Squirrel is also showing up regularly, but having more trouble getting seed since we wrapped the shepherd's hook with an ABS plastic sheath. She's looking a little peeved these days... Even without Pesky Red Squirrel's help, the sunflower seed still needs replenishing every other day.

Mr and Mrs Downy Woodpecker (that's Ma on the left and Pa on the right) are making good use of the suet.
The white-breasted nuthatches are crazy about it, too.

The red-breasted nuthatches are guilty of a little suet consumption, too.
Suet doesn't last long here...we go through about 1.5 cakes a week right now. That'll go up to 2 or more a week during the really cold spells. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention my little goldfinch and chickadee buddies. They come every day and scold me while I'm filling feeders.

But the bestest encounter so far this fall was a ruffed grouse in the front yard.
After playing peek-a-boo around the tree trunks... ...it made a run for the pines and then disappeared from view.

Great pics, Hazel .....you get such a variety of birds at your place.
Was the grouse teasing the pack? |
