ear infections
My eight year old german shepherd has a constant ear infection. She has been treated with antibiotics and several runs of ear ointments but it just keeps recurring. The vet says in deep the ear looks clear but she walks around shaking her head and one ear is bloody and cracked inside all the time. Any suggestions would be helpful. P.S. Strangely enoough there is no bad smell which you would associate with an ear infection.

Hmmmmmm.
There has to be something irritating the ear.Is she scratching at it? There could be something lodged deeper in her ear. And there is no odor?Hmmmmm. My previous GSD was having problems with one of his ears.Found out that he had an allergy to fleas. So I was always cleaning his ear out and putting antibiotics in it. Wish I could have helped you more.

I got a Dal with reoccuring ear infections. Very bad ones that has the ear bleeding. I changed foods and so far so good (knock on wood) The vet suggested it.

And this is the same dog as you indicate on your 'other' post that does have a foul odour coming from it's other end right?
Ear infections can be difficult to treat. How do u know it's an ear infection, what are the symptoms the dog is having. If inner / middle ear.. ..the antibiotic treatment should be extended and can take a month of treatment to go away. Surolan drops are thicker and work better then the plain old peroxide / saline type.

Surlan is what Lizzy has been on. You should also try to clean the ear..with a non alcohol based cleaner I use Epi otic ever 2 wks but i judge if the ear looks clean I don't use anything.

ear infections
Thanks for your replies. We have put her back on antibiotics because the ear just isn't clearing. I too use epioptic so I'm going to try and keep the ear clean without picking at it too much and see if it resolves itself.
