Gouldian finch

A friend of mine just inherited two Gouldian finches- she has canaries now- does anyone here know anything about their care , health, feeding and so forth?

Thanks!

Hopefully some of these sites will help. The last one has some great info. I have a couple of peachface lovebirds so check for health issues and such quite often.

Very pretty birds at any rate, I'm trying to imagine a flock of them in a tree somewhere in a warm country ...

IO've read a lot of that stuff online- I just wondered if anyone had any personal experience with them. Sometimes, that is more helpful than an faq because not all birds are alike. Thanks so much ofr those though - it all helps. She inherited two and they are beautiful but the person who gave them to her (someone had died in their family and they did not want them) did not know how to care for them and gave her all kinds of instructions but one of them has had the diarrhea since being fed fruit so she is wondering if maybe they do not eat fruit yet that was in the directions re care - this woman has a multitude (like 12 plus) other birds so she is knowledgeable about things avarian (sp?) but has never cared for this species.

She has ordered a book on Amazon so hopefully that'll help and I suggested she write to some of these ppl online or even call them and that may help.

Thanks again.

Gouldians are probably one of the most beautiful of the finches, but also one of the most fragile. We have an aviary with about sixty or so finches including gouldians. For diet we use a standard finch mix and we also feed an insectivor mix as well as fresh fruit daily, oranges are their favorite. We also have heat lamps as the goulds are extremely sensitive to cold.Have fun they really are gorgeous.
