Not very nice with other Dogs
My dog Milo and I have just moved here from Alberta in which when we lived in Alberta he had two and more other dogs to play with. Since we have been here when he sees other dogs he freaks out, goes crazy, but when we get up closer he trys to fight them, gets really mean (big or small). What can I do? I try to keep walking or go the other way or even stop and say NO, nothing is helping with the problem. When people see us in the park they go the other way so they do not have to deal with me and my crazy dog! Please help me!!!

Stop letting your dog get close to other dogs as this will make him WORSE. It sounds like he is acting out of fear and depends on you to keep him safe. If you let the other dogs approach him, he feels HE needs to act.
He needs to be desensitized to the prescence of strange dogs.Take him to a place outside the park where he can see the other dogs, but is far enough away so that he does not react. If he does not know the command "Watch me", this is a good time to teach it. Have him sit, and give him praise and treats for not reacting and for obeying you. Use a really special treat, and give it ONLY when other dogs are around. Gradually get closer, using the same methods. If you go too close and he reacts, then back up a step. This will teach him that having other dogs around is a good thing and brings him treats. |

My dog is like that, too. We've actualy gotten it down to a minimum. Carry treats with you and give one to your dog every time he sees another dog. Act realaxed like its no big deal that there is another dog around. It isn't.
