Let's see bird pictures - Year 2008

Wow, I stumbled across the old bird thread and noticed some fabulous new shots from Lukka's mom at the end. I thought about posting some new ones of mine but decided that thread is pretty big so we should probably get a new one started for this year.

These are some new shots at my feeder during our snow storm last week.

Hard to see him but this is a shy woodpecker that is a frequent visitor. Unfortunately anytime I get near the window he takes off .

Great idea to start a new thread.
I love all your bird shots TeriM
In a few weeks I am going on a big bird excursion with a hired birding guide, so hopefully will have some great pics to post.

Great idea to start a new thread--I tried to get into the old one but there's too many pictures on the last page. My modem gasped twice and then needed resuscitation!

Looks like a towhee! I can't believe it's still there--around here, all the towhees migrate to warmer climes for the winter. Birds on the west coast must be tougher.

I love the battling siskins! That's a great action shot!

Aw me too hazel!
I think I will take the slr for this adventure. One of the hikes we have booked is 8 - 9 hours long so I should get at least one good shot out of that. That's as long as I am not laying on the ground gasping for breath from climbing the mountains

Smoky Mountains Tennessee
Hubby's are staying home, girlfriend and I are going to rough it for 7 days. We hired a guide for the first two days and then we will conquer the remaining days ourselves

Sounds like a dreamy trip! I hope you're going to catch the migration! That would be spectacular!

Really hope we catch the migration too, we're going the last week of April so with any luck we'll be in the thick of things.

Very nice bird pictures and such a variety. Looks like you live at the North Pole. You should move to the Maritimes where its warm.

As a Koi pond owner, I'm happy to see those beautiful birds are a long way away from me.

Here's a few I took today.
A grackle finding the waterfall interesting, a robin on the fence and another getting some nesting material.

Teri, great pics,I did not see this thread before, don't know how I missed it
Yes,that is a Red Wing Black-bird,the others are Gold Finches as you probably know,I got lots of them too.
The bird in your snowpic is not a Junco,it looks like a brush Grosbeak, but I could be wrong, very pretty.
Juncos are sparrow-sized birds dark-grey and whitish, come around here only in winter.

Wow, Teri, do you have the siskins there!! We've got maybe a half dozen total here this year and I thought that was a lot. You've got that many in your first shot!

The hummers are keeping ol' hazel hummin' already. Haven't got any pictures of them, yet, but I have three feeders out and they're doing a good job draining them every day.

Great Pics again TerriM. Love the redwing in the cedar.

Here's a few more from today. I'm not sure about the first 2 pics, a little blurry, little bird wouldn't cooperate. I think it's a redstart. Anybody know for sure? Next is another grackle.

The first shot in post in Teri's last post (post #18). The siskins look like brownish, streaked goldfinches. Sound a little like them, too. The middle picture in post #2 (also Teri's) shows them, also. You can see the yellow wing markings.

I absolutely love your camera, cindy! What a great shot of a warbler! Yes, it's definitely a male redstart. Got any more warbler pictures?

Those are the prettiest ducks I've ever seen.
I think I've seen swans in person once maybe twice. Not nearly enough for such a regal looking bird.
I so envy your chickadee pic, I have so many around in the winter, but they move faster than I do.

Too cute Chico2. I saw a pair of geese with their little flock of fuzzies yesteray in Lowe's parking lot. They're everywhere right now. I love seeing all the little goslings. Mind you if I lived somewhere where they have problems with geese, I might not be quite as happy. There's no shortage of them around where I live, but they stay in the fields and the flood plain behind my place, so they don't bother with my pond thank goodness.
