Sashas Blend vs Recovery SA

Can anyone give me some advice (or personal experience) on how these two products differ and which would be better for what ailments? I'm not very familiar with any of the ingredients in SB, and if possible I'd like to stay away from glucosamine (been there, done that).

Thanks!

I used the Recovery for one of my last huskies......or I should say tried to. It is horrible tasting (bitter) and the only way I could give it to him was by buying empty gelatin capsules and filling them with the powder.

I haven't tried the Sasha's Blend but there is someone on the board here that uses it and recommended it. I know it has green lipped mussel in it which sounds pretty good.

I posted a thread awhile ago asking if anyone has tried it but didn't get a lot of response. I think I will give it a try once my bottle of glucosamine/chondroitin runs out.

Anyone else have any experience with it?

Actually I ordered it from my vet. She is also one of my clients so when I was there last I checked with AVP (Associated Vet Purchasing) and they stock it so I ordered the big size. I sure hope it works .

Wow, that is a great price. I think that is around what the vet wholesale price is.

Does that company ship from Australia? How long does it usually take to get here?

I've never ordered from them but others here have. I bookmarked the site when it was mentioned in another thread. They say it takes 7-10 days and the normal shipping charge is $7.20 to the U.S. unless the item is heavy.

Here's the FAQ page:

I ordered the powder. It said that most dogs liked the taste and Lucy is really easy to give stuff to anyway. I usually just mix it onto her food.

I was told that most dogs liked the taste of Recovery too. When mine didn't I decided to try it and it was gross.

Recovery does sound like it would taste awful .
Quote:
Recovery®SA orally administered powder contains Nutricol® — a proprietary blending of plant nutrients recognized for their health-promoting action*, MSM (methyl sulfonyl methane), glucosamine, l-lysine, trimethylglycine (TMG), magnesium, vitamin C & vitamin E.
From the Sasha's Blend website:
Quote:
Sasha’s Blend is easy to give your dog. It is in powder form and dogs generally love the taste. Depending on the weight of your dog for instance a 30kg dog would need one teaspoon of powder mixed with food or drink once a day. For the first week we recommend start on half the dose and then build up to the full dose.

What if my dog does not eat his food with Sasha’s Blend in it?
If giving a dry food diet, or your dog is a fussy eater, mix the powder with moist food or liquid or roll into a treat eg bread/ham/cheese.

If this fails mix into a paste as follows:

Spoon a weeks worth into a cup and mix into a dry paste with a little olive oil or natural yoghurt. Roll into balls and store in an airtight jar in the fridge. These then can be given directly into the mouth or more easily hidden in food or a treat.
If I gave the capsules, I would need 4 per day with Lucy so I would go through the bottle pretty quick.

It should be in on Tuesday. I'll probably swing by and pick it up sometime this week or early next.

When I used Recovery several years ago, it was fairly new on the market. It was recommended by the vet and I never even checked the ingredients. I see that it is really just MSM and glucosamine and whatever their "proprietory blend" of ingredients is.

Now that I'm more of an ingredient watcher, Sasha's Blend sounds much better IMO. Also, I'm sure I won't have a problem with giving it to Chase.

Recovery is supposed to be some sort of cell regeneration nonsense on top of the gluc, so for me it's definitely worth a try. If I don't see results by the end of this bottle though, then I'm going to try Sasha's Blend. I've tried glucosamine before and it didn't work, but trying it again (in this form), certainly can't hurt.

It does taste bad (bitter), but Ben doesn't seem to mind it at all.

I picked it up last week and told hubby to give it to Lucy with evening meal. Unfortunately , because I forgot to write it on the "list" he forgot to give it to her.

Anyway I started giving it to her last night. She is only supposed to have a 1/2 dose for the first week. Hubby had missed her dose so I tried sprinkling it in a piece of turkey and giving it to her. She spit it on to the floor but then she did eat the turkey and licked all of the remaining loose powder off the floor. I think I can assume that she doesn't mind the taste .

I'll keep you informed.

I'm totally unimpressed with Recovery (the dose is 1500mg glucosamine, which is what I wanted to stay away from). When my bottle is finished, I'm going to try Sashas Blend for sure.

I'll have to check with my vet if I can order it there.
