My cat is being a jerk!

We just sold our house and moved in with my parents. We will be here for 5 weeks then we get possession of our new place (yay!)

The dogs have adjusted just fine, but my cat Charlie is picking on the resident cat Sasha. We kept him in the bathroom when we first moved in then slowly let him investigate the house with supervision. The first time he met Sasha it was just growling and they went their sepatate ways, but now he will chase her, then the claws come out and fur goes flying. It happened for the second time last night. I didn't see the first fight, or the cause of it ( I just yelled to scare them and it worked) but I watched last night to see if Charlie was just curious and wanting to meet her, or if he's trying to take over the house. I couldn't tell who swung first but when she tried to run away he chased her.

They are separated when nobody is home and they are both fixed. Poor Sasha is 15 years old and about 3 lbs, while Charlie is about 7 and 10+ lbs.

Any ideas to help them get along? or at elast tolerate each other? It's only been a week, so there is hope.

Thanks
Sarah

Sarahlynn, this may sound crazy but it works for me! Whenever I take one of my 2 cats to the vets, they always come home smelling different than the other! So my vet told me years ago to make them smell the same! He suggested rubbing some baby powder through my hands and then rub each one of the cats down with it...within 15 minutes they are back to normal...This may work for you!

Good Luck

Cindy

I would just keep them separated @ all times the female is 15 years old after all & she doesn't need that kinda fuss from an "intruder" in her space, the other thing that concerns me is she's only 3 lbs ???? I hope she's a tiny sized cat. It wouldn't take much for a younger heavier cat to do some serious damage to such a delicate baby.

good luck

my folks-in-law have one of those 3lb cats. neat little story with that. sat but unusual...

my MIL was neglected as an infant so was stunted in her growth from it. that little tiny woman sure has a big presence! Boo showed up young but obviously starved. she is 14 years old and a healthy 5lbs.

im of the same opinion growler. give the old lady some peace. 15 is pretty old for a kitty.

Thanks for everyones responses!

As for her tiny size....she has always been super tiny. We had her brother from the same litter (who has since passed) and he was about the same size as my Charlie or bigger. Maybe she was the runt, we are not sure because as far as I remember, they both started out the same size! We have had her since she was 8 weeks old, she was always happy, healthy and teeny.

We are going to keep them seperate so she doesn't get worked up. It's only a month!

Poor kitty. I agree, its her house, and she's old and shouldn't be bullied like that in her own space. It's not like you are going to live there permanently, so I'm sure confining your cat to the bathroom and your room should be good enough for the short amount of time you spend at your parents.
