We have baby squirrels in our tree!

There is a mom with 3 babies that are living in the big tree in the backyard, I've been having so much fun watching them eating their breakfast every morning.

I bought a bell made of seeds and fruit for them and the mom chewed the string I hung it on and took the entire thing away, it was hysterical watching her climbing around with the treat that was bigger than her.

I'm not sure if there is anything better I could put out for them, I don't want to give them the wrong thing but would like to make their lives more comfy by having something around for them.

Here is one of the babies sunning on a branch:

What a cute little guy ....they are so entertaining to watch.

Here is some info on what they like to eat from http://www.squirrels.info/distress/feeding.htm ....

Quote:
We have found that they like (in order of importance):

Small pieces of nuts (especially pine nuts which are quite soft) preferably mixed, with not too many peanuts. Obviously the nuts must not be in their shells and must be unsalted.

Small pieces of fresh fruit, such as apple, grape and banana, as well as broccoli and carrot.

Dried fruit such as raisins and sultanas.

Special K - especially with red berries!

Small pieces of digestive biscuit.

It just so nice that you're helping them with some food. All moms need help now and again.

Rainbow thanks for those suggestions, I'm going to put out some pieces of baby carrot tonight for them!

I'm so happy to help them, they've provided me hours of entertainment watching them learning to explore and playing with each other. They are just too adorable!

lor, yes, they are wonderful little creatures,so fun to watch.
Your little one looks really young.
I have about 5 babies every morning in my tree,3 of them and their mom live in the neighbors roof, but that's another story.

I bought suet-cakes and they love them, gone in one day, they also love the corn we put out and of course the birdseeds.
We have been feeding our Squirrels peanuts for many years and I watched mom open a peanut, giving it to one of the babies
Love them!

Here are two more pictures I took from my bedroom window, they are so tiny!

They gobbled up the carrots and when I went out to put some more there were 2 bunnies waiting too. I am loving all the wildlife around our new house

Lor,if you have peanut-butter at home, you can mix in some bird-seeds and stick it in the tree, they'll love that..
Mine here are not quiet as small as yours, they still need their mom, very cute.

You're going to have a backyard full of wildlife pretty soon when the word gets out about the good food at your place.

They are so cute ....keep the pics coming.

As long as they leave me a space to sit down I'm ok with that lol! So far I've got the birds, squirrels, bunnies and some neighborhood cats have started visiting.

They are so fun to watch. I was at the store yesterday refilling my seed supply and I was amazed to see how many feeders are marked "squirrel-proof". Why feed birds and not squirrels?

Just have to give a squirrel some time and it will conquer just about any "squirrel proof" feeder

Years ago we lived on 3/4 acre and had all kinds of wild (and not so wild) life visit the yard routinely. We affectionately referred to these as "squirrel training devices"....as opposed to "squirrel proof".

Great photo!
