Smile A few mini horse pics - for FancyAppy

I dug up a few mini pics that were on my computer. These are from last spring. They are of Strawberry and her newborn foal. Some of the other minis are also in the background, and the trailer was set up as a run-in shed with a round pen attached to separate Strawberry and the foal from the others. I also took some pictures today but I don't have them on the computer yet. The camera batteries died so they're on the charger now and I'll upload the new photos when the batteries are charged.

Here's one more of the foal

And this is another friends minis, when they had a friend come to visit this winter. She came and went for about a week and then left for good. Her nickname was Molly

Here's one more of the foal that I found in a different file on my computer. In this one the foal looks to have a bulgy forehead (which I mentioned in the other thread is one of the signs of dwarfism), but often the foals are born like that and then it changes and they look normal. As this foal grew it did not exhibit the dwarf characteristics.

Yep, I do only have one, Noah. These minis aren't my horses, they live across the road from me, and so do the collies in the pics. The black dog is Summer, my dog Lightning's sister. I guess I should have said that, I just kind of continued here from something I started in FancyAppy's thread about her new minis. Decided to start my own to post these pics rather than to hijack the original post completely.

Okay, so I should have titled this thread LOTS of mini pictures

These aren't super pics, the horses weren't near the fence where I was and only these ones were down by the pond. The others, including a bunch of the foals were up around back of the barn and not in sight for pictures. Despite the huge bellies on some, none of these mares are currently in foal, they all have already foaled out this year. Most of the babies were up at the back of the barn when I was taking pics.

Magic and Belle, and one of the babies

Princess and Star

Belle and a baby (not hers) Her baby is Duster, and he's a chestnut like Rosie but with a white patch just above his tail.

Gail..thank you so much for these pics. These are beautiful horses, just like you said. And the babies are so precious!!!!!!!
What a beautiful place you and your neighbor live.!!!!!
The moose is astounding. Can you imagine seeing that in your pasture? How wonderful to witness the meeting of horses and moose on a wintry day.
Are most of her horses paints? The have gorgeous coats, manes and tails. You can see they are very well taken care of.It must be fun for you to watch them. Do you have any more pics?...any recent pics of your own horses?
Thanks again for all the great info you shared with me about mini's and appys.

A lot of her horses are pintos, but there are a few solids (Strawberry, Star, Caramia, Beauty, Diel, Prince, Charger and Little Dude). Hey, I just remembered one more that I didn't list in that other thread, Echo, but she's also a pinto. I thought I was forgetting somebody

Since she's breeding to sell she's trying to attain the "whole package" of conformation, temperament, movement and colour (that's why she's got 4 different studs - 3 solids, 1 pinto so she's got lots of genetic diversity plus some different looks). The pintos seem to be pretty popular (esp. the black & whites), and though her first priority is conformation/soundness above colour, she does hope for lots of colour in the foals. I know that at the mini breed shows they do offer "colour classes", so people seem to like them flashy looking.

I don't have any more pics right now (or really recent ones of my own horses), but I'll try to get some shots when they're up near the fence again, and maybe Gabby will be around then too. It's been so hot and buggy that the minis have been spending a lot of time inside during the day. They can go around the back of the barn and in where it's cool and dark.

I just remembered my neighbour's old website and went searching to find the address. I say old because somebody build it for her years ago but then it was never updated. She's really not into doing stuff like that and doesn't spend much time on the computer. Her horse sales are not done over the internet, it's either in person to people she generally knows or at the miniature horse sale. So in terms of technology the site it positively ancient and the foals in the pics are now all grown up. In fact, on the photos page there are baby pictures of Princess, who is pictured above already, and also some of Magic and Beauty. Here's the link: http://homeoftheminiatures.homestead.com/
Any links to other sites on there may not work since nothing's been updated in so long.

Gail I visited the site and the parade pics are great esp. the cart. Someone told me mini's are addictive and I think they are right. I have always loved horses but these mini's have stolen my heart. Now I want one that is spotted!...and I really have to work on my husband about the cart.
Has your friend had experience with dwarfs? I was asked to take one in and I just don't know.....I don't think I am equipped for all the medical issues...Can you share what you know about the health issues in dwarfs?

I really don't know too much about the problems dwarfs may have. My neighbour has never had any dwarfed foals, and wouldn't purchase a dwarf for breeding purposes. Sorry I'm not more help with that. Maybe you could find more info about that from the AMHA http://www.amha.org/ or just do a search for miniature horse dwarfism?

Here's something I just found. I was on the home page of the AMHA, then clicked a link for free info about miniature horses, then clicked another link for genetics. Rather than you having to go through all that, here is the link to a page about research about dwarfism http://www.amha.org/index.asp?KeyName=141

Thanks! You have a beautiful family too Isn't it funny how to people like us it's so normal and wonderful to have all these animals and we couldn't imagine it any other way, and others sometimes just can't understand. My own sister isn't really a dog person and is completely overwhelmed when she comes here (which isn't very often as she lives quite far away from me - I only see her maybe once a year) Once when she was here Flash (one of my rescue dogs, the more shy one of my bunch),wanted to actually put his front feet up into her lap to visit and while I was amazed that he was that outgoing with her she was trying to shoo him away. Some people just don't get it
