Don't go by distributor's based on what's on Nutiva's website Otter. I'd more or less given it up as well ~ I can't remember completely but I don't think they even listed Toronto locations. Then one day I just happened to be wandering around a health food store in Kensington market and la Viola ! And no problemo on the hijack ~ I'm learning too!

Frenchy, I noticed a big decrease in shedding with the coconut oil versus the different fish oils and olive oil we've tried. We've also done the Omega 3-6-9 route as well.

Byrd it may be less expensive elsewhere, I just happened upon it and snapped it up (being the impulse Queen that I am ). I'm going to Kensington later this week where there are 4 health food stores which I intend to check. I'll let you know on the price comparison but also bear in mind I'm going to go through stuff at least 3x faster than you would with wee Willow.

Question

I've decided to give the coconut oil a try.

At my local health food store I found the "Garden of Life" brand. It is extra virgin coconut oil but is not organic.

Does anybody know if it should be organic? I am trying to look for information on this. What I mean is, are all coconuts already organic therefore there would be no difference between organic vs non-organic coconut oil? I have never heard or coconuts actually being sprayed with chemiclas while they grow.

On the Garden of Life website: http://www.gardenoflife.com/detail_coconut_oil.shtml

it says that my coconut oil is 100% organic. But it doesn't say this on the label.

LOL - no biggee. I have not tried that brand, but I am familiar with it. As long as it is, indeed, the organic extra virgin, then it will be great.

Speaking of Nutiva....for those of you who live in Montreal, Laval, or the South Shore, I found it on sale at Tau. A mega jar, 1.53kg (54oz) for 26.99$ instead of the reg. price 33.39$. I used to use Bali'Sun and paid 29.99$ for just under 24oz . Thanks to this thread, I recognized the Nutiva label (I'd never heard of it before).

I am not sure how much shipping would be, but www.netrition.com carries Nutiva, and at an awesome price. Here is a direct link:
