She's a cutie. I so used to enjoy watching the squirrels play tag in our yard. Unfortunately (but very wise of them), they stopped when Lucky and Penny wanted to join in the fun .

So that's a red squirrel ! We had one at our cottage when I was young. We use to feed him , we named him "Ti-Bi" (I don't remember why , it's a stupid name ) and he used to climp our screen door to get peanuts ! But my mom didn't want him to come inside

Oh Frenchy, she was back yesterday for peanuts,I got within 2 feet of her,of course no camera,OMG is she cute
The big regular Squirrels scared her away, today I'll have the camera attached to my hip she's sooo tiny..
I was told a long time ago,Red Squirrels are almost extinct in Ontario.

It is a grey squirrel. Here is a picture of a red squirrel

http://www.all-creatures.org/picc/squirrel-red.html scoll all the way down and you will see really good pics of the red squirrel.

I got bit by a red squirrel once. He was latched on to my finger pretty good. Finger sweld up to twice my size.

I wish I post pic on here. I have a picture my aunt sent me. It is a picture of a Albino squirrel *L* all white with red eyes. She took the picture in her yard..or if you want to call it that *L* she lives on a mountain in a foest. In New Brunswich.

I LOVE squirrel though. they are so spazzy, it's cute.

No shortage of squirrels here either . Some people call squirrels "fuzzy rats with good public relations" but I gotta say I do find them quite entertaining .

15 yrs ago, red squirrels were going extinct in Ontario, thanks to wildlife rescues we have since brought that number up. Red squirrels are much smaller than black/grey/brown squirrels which are actually all "black" squirrels. don't ask I have no idea why *L* The red squirrel has a distinct "whistle", you can hear them in the early mornings when they call out to each other.

I'm afraid these aren't very good pics, they were taken 14 yrs ago and scanned, two red squirrels less than 24 hours old that I raised and released.
two days old

six weeks old

Melinda,it's amazing you manage to save those wee ones
Goldyy, that's exactly what our little one looks like, she comes every day around 2pm,she must have a watch
She's really feisty, scares the big Squirrels away, her chatter is really cute..
She comes running on the cable-wire,good thing she does not have to cross the street..

So cute Chico. When I take Lukka in the woods tomorrow I will try and take a pic of one of the red squirrels there. Just tons of them, can't always see them but they can be heard in the tree's making that long shrill as we approach.
When hubby and I used to vacation in the bush outside of Hearst Ont. we had a little red squirrel that would sit on out lap and take peanuts etc. She would arrive very early in the morning and sit on the deck chattering away if the door wasn't yet open. So I would have to get up and start the routine, peanuts, sunflower seeds etc. I have many pictures of her inside the cabin, she would sit on the table while we ate and have her stash of nutsI will scan one and post it for you. Broke my heart when our two weeks was up and we left, I often thought of her.

Lukkas mom, please post pics,I love these little guys
About leaving,we are going away for a couple of weeks in October to South Carolina,my son will stay with the cats, but refuses to go out and fill the feeders every day
He will throw peanuts to the squirrels on our deck, hopefully the little one will find her way to the deck,my Pigeons and other birds are going to have to survive without me for a while:sad:

Chico here are two pictures of our little
Scampy (hubby named her).
She would spend the better part of the day with us just relaxing and visiting. So strange to find such a friendly little girl at a wilderness lodge in the middle of nowhere northern Ontario. This was from 1996 so I'm sure she has long since passed

Awww Lukkas mom, that's so cute..I wish ours was not so afraid.
Today when he came, hubby is out there making sure the Blue Jays do not take the peanuts
I am pretty sure we have more than one around, but they come from further away, using the overhead cable-wires to cross the street.
Hubby is kind of cute tooo

She was a great little squirrel. She always stayed with us during the day, if we sat outside she was in our laps or often sitting on our heads. If we were in the cabin she would be on the table. Never thought I would get so attached to her in only 2 weeks, but the morning we left and she was on the chair looking at us as we drove off that was tough. Almost killed me to see her watching us leave.

FiFi is very cute. Three years worth of a bond is a hard thing to get over when that day comes that you call and there just isn't a response. Regardless of how long we get to have animals in our lives when their time comes I can't help but think, it wasn't long enough:sad:
