Cat rescues in Hamilton

There's been a very friendly orange and white cat, about six months old, hanging around my place (Shadyside Avenue, by Fennel and Sherman). She/he seems healthy; I'd take the little cutie in but I'm living with my parents and my dad's allergic

Does anyone know of any cat rescues who will be able to take her/him in? I'd call AC but they have an unfortunately high euthanasia rate because of the overpopulation I hate when people let cats roam loose Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

The kitty probably has a home but probably owners that dont care! I dont live too far from your area and there are many more cats roaming around now that the summer months are here!

There are a few groups in the area but unless kitty is in distress they likely wont help.

All I can say is that if you get the kitty and take it to the SPCA please remember that the facility located in the back of the SPCA is the Animal Control area which is run totally seperate from the SPCA and it is a high kill facility! If you surrender an animal you must go through the front not the back!

I guess if you don't know what sex kitty is you don't know if s/he is fixed either. Six months or so is a dangerous time for the little one. Way too young for a pregnancy. Only good thing is most orange kitties are males. Still too young to be roaming.
Unfortunately I don't know of any rescues either. Could you post pics around your area asking if there is an owner? Maybe someone will be responsible and admit to letting their baby out.

There is still a possibility that the kitty is lost and the owner is looking for him/her. Did you check local lost and found listings, etc? Wonder if the kitty is tatooed? Also 14+ suggested posting pics and otherwise letting it be known that you found this kitty, in case someone is looking for him. I also googled on the internet and noticed there appears to be at least one rescue in the Hamilton area.

http://www.adoptapet.com/adoption_rescue/69036.html

If they are a no kill shelter chances are they will be full, unfortunately, but you might want to give them a call and ask for advice, at least.

Good luck. everything works out for the kitty.

Thumbs up

I believe 'PRIDE' cat rescue is based in Hamilton; did some volunteer work for them a while back, and they coordinate with rescues in Elmira and Toronto. I should have googled before posting this to, to confirm...but I'd contact them via email (google first for info, of course-it should be out there). Good luck, and thanks for wanting to help this particular cat-always hard to know the story behind cats i.e. stray vs. neglected etc.

p.s. YUP, it is 'Pride Rescue'...all info easily found on 'net.

I would surrender the cat to Burlington Humane Society if you can't catch it (it's no kill).

The Pride Rescue

To my knowledge it's a great group, but I contacted them once about a cat and they told me they only take in cats from shelters who are at risk of being PTS.

Thanks everyone so much. You guys rock

I saw on the Pride Rescue Petfinder site that they're temporarily unable to take in cats, but I did email Hamilton Animal Welfare and they replied with the following:

Quote:
We might be able to help you with this kitten but the problem is that we have to isolate it for 10 days before it can stay at the vet's or go to a foster home where there are other cats in case it has upper respiratory. We have limited foster homes for this purpose so it would be a big help if you or someone else you know could keep it inside for the isolation period. It would be easier to talk about this on the phone rather than email if you could give me your phone number or call me at 905-547-4169 and leave a message if I'm not here.
I'll be sure to get in touch with them over the phone, too. Because of my dad's allergies I'm unable to foster him/her, as much as I'd like to If anyone knows of anyone who might be able to foster, it'd be greatly appreciated!

You're very welcome, kashtin's kin

I was going to make "Found" posters but someone beat me to the punch and they have what I think the same cat pictured (the picture is black and white but the age/markings/personality seem to be a direct match). I see that she is still roaming, though. I'm thinking they know where she/he but hasn't yet been able to catch it? I think I'll give them a call as well, maybe put them in touch with the rescue as well.

That is great news!! If things don't work out PM me. I will see if I can foster him for the ten day isolation. He will have to stay in a large dog crate but it's better than getting hit by a car.

Another update; my neighbour's going to adopt her Her previous cat (which she's had since I was in grade five!) had to be sent to the Rainbow Bridge because she was sick.
