Why does AvoDerm tinned cat food say this on the cans ?

Quote:
Daily Feeding Instructions
To assure that your kitten or adult cat is receiving the maximum nutrition, feed AvoDerm Natural Kitten & Adult or Hairball dry formulas with any of our can formulas. Kittens: allow 2-3 meals per day and to eat as much as they like. Adults: feed up to two cans daily. When you feed both dry and can allow 25% of your cats daily allowance to our can food and 75% to our dry formula. Our dry formula should be available at all times.
What's up with that ?
The tinned food isn't a complete food ?

I guess it is missing taurine.

Dang.

Are any tinned foods complete on their own ? Or do they all need to be supplemented with kibble ?

I feed my cat Wellness canned (grain free) and it is a complete cat food. I think some wet foods are just 'toppers', others are a complete food.

I just checked their website & their formulas do have taurine in them.

I think the most important part of that quote is "WHEN you feed both dry and can"

Yes you can feed strictly canned it is complete, they just want to make sure if you feed both can & wet the cat is getting a minimum of 25% of their daily feeding in canned. Canned alone is far healthier that dry.

I would suggest you have a look @ Wellness Grain Free canned formulas. The ingredients are better & there is no unneccessary grains.

I took the liberty of emailing the AvoDerm company and asking why dry food is recommended on the tinned Select Cuts foods.

This is the reply I received (VERY quickly I might add ) :

Quote:
Dry cat food has more vitamins and minerals that meet your cat's
nutritional needs than is in the Select Cuts canned cat foods.
Thank you for your question.

You're far better off feeding a canned only complete food such as Wellness Grain Free

Be that as it may, I was still curious as to the rationale behind the statement on the AvoDerm label !

Nope, no egg (or dairy) in any of the Wellness formulas.
