Vancouver: looking to adopt small breed

I am looking to adopt a young adult small breed of the following (if at all possible): Yorkie, Pug, Schnauzer (min), Boston Terrier, or perhaps a mix breed? I live in a small space and have a cat! I really would prefer to adopt so thought I'd try this forum.

I called about this dog lucky spot I thought he was really sweet. The girl at the shelter says he comes up to her knee. I don't think he would be the right dog for us as he looks like he might be too powerful for too young boys to handle. They did say he was very friendly they were not sure what he is mixed with.
