Bad Car Crash on 404 Dogs ran away

Paco and Peanut were riding in the back of my friends car when she was struck by a drunk driver at about 11pm on Dec 30/08. The dogs got scared and ran away. Paco was on a lesh but in terrified state vigourously wiggled free of his collar. I've read on here that some people feel that if a dog is found on the highway he was dumped there. Well this is not the case. My gf and I are hurting very badly right now and her friend that was driving feels nothing but guilt even though it was the fault of a drunk. If theres anyone out there that wants to help us please do. We've called all the places - Vets, SPCA, police, Kennel INN. We've placed flyers in the area we don't know what else to do.

If anyone can help us organize a search and canvas we need the help. The area is huge. The accident happened on the 404 at Elgin Mills. I hope the little guys are warm somewhere.

Oh, what a dreadful way to start the year

I certainly hope that no one was hurt in the crash and that the driver is being pursued to the fullest extent of the law for their bad choice of driving

So this is the 404 in Ontario near Markam, right?

Try posting on kijiji.ca for Toronto..I have had a lot of help from this site.
Also don't underestimate the distance a little dog can travel...one the other day got about 10 miles north of where he went missing and was found in a barn in just a couple of days.
Hoping for the return of these little guys real soon.

Also send this out to every vet office and humane society/shelter. Call, email fax etc.. the details. Offer a reward and make sure you state that.

I would do as much of Ont are you could cause if someone picked them up near the hwy they could travel with them a long way.

(((HUGS))) I am sorry you are having to deal with this!

I really hope that you find your 2 dogs. Check out www.infopet.ca ...post a lost ad and also search for any found dogs. Also, look at canadastrays.com.
I know how it hurts to lose a dog..I am still looking for my own. I look at lost and found websites everydog looking for my own dog that has been missing since March, so I will keep an eye open for your 2 dogs.

Thanks for posting that picture. Unfortunately that isn't Paco. Paco doesn't have any brown on him except for his paws. We tried tracking them for the last two days and it seems he's moving north heading towards Stoffville. Please keep the posts of lost dog pics coming. I've been checking everything I can imagine as well. We think the old man (Paco) is out there and working his way back up to Newmarket.

We went out looking again today with no luck. We have a new plan to try to get the local tv stations involved. If we can get enough people to call the local tv stations they may run the story (we hope).

My gf Danielle Cohen has created a facebook group. Called

Please help me find my dogs!

If we can get enough people to join this group and have them call the local tv stations I'm hoping we can get them to run a story. We are looking for new ideas too. Please keep posting pics of lost dogs that you find in the area. We still have hope.

Thankyou to everyone from both of us.

PacoandPeanut,,I would contact the Toronto Star and the Sun,after all, they are missing because of a drunk driver.
City TV is usually interested in this kind of story too.
I am just really concerned about their small size and the cold weather, that someone has taken them indoors.
Would they stick together,is Peanut a small puppy??

Chico - Peanut looks real young to me.

You mentioned that you thought Paco was headed towards Stoufville, might be a good idea to place a lost dog report with Georgina Animal Control, they handle Animal Control for Stoufville. The Newmarket OSPCA handles it for Markham. My daughter works for the Newmarket branch, I will get her to check if they have heard anything when she goes to work tomorrow.

As far as TV stations - "A" channel from Barrie also do a lot of reporting for the area and it is watched by many as it has a lot of local news. I believe they have an outlet in Aurora.

PacoandPeanut - I was looking at the THS site this morning and someone has a posting for a found puppy between Kennedy and Brimley in Scarborough. I know it is a real long shot, they say they are not posting more details due to the circumstances of where and how the dog was found.

The website ID# is 243.

Here is the link P&P: http://www.torontohumanesociety.com/...ublic_dogs.asp

It is the same site where you posted Peanut and Paco as missing, it is the first post on the page.

My daughter is going to check at the OSPCA when she gets there around lunchtime, maybe they will have some news for you.

P&P - My daughter called me, unfortunately your little guys are not at the OSPCA in Newmarket. She did mention that the East side of the 404 is Markham and the West side is Richnmond Hill as far as Animal Control is concerned.

She also asked if you had contacted the Ministry of Transport, Highways' Dept to see if they know anything

I did notice that you have not posted on www.canadastrays.com, which is another lost and found site.

Have you had any leads at all? Also did you notice in which direction your pups went when they ran.

for their quick return.

Ok I'm on canadianstrays now. No news yet except that we hired a pet detective with a tracking dog and she was able to pick up Paco's trail heading in an Eastward direction from the 404. He's a tough little man so he could be quite a distance from there now. Also the scent dog was able to find every dead carcass in the field we were looking in and thankfully none of them were our boys. I guess I have to make that scary phonecall to the ministry to see if they have passed on.
