Ureter and bladder
I have been contacted about a 3 year old golden boy that has a leaking problem. It seems he has a disconnect between his ureter and bladder which allows urine to leak all day.
He has had surgery but it was not completely successful as he is still leaking. His owners have tried putting a diaper of some sort on him but when they are not home he takes it off. Has anyone heard of this problem and if so were you successful in finding a solution? I would like to help this boy but need information before I take him on. |

Ectopic Ureter
I found a name for it. It seems it is something that often affects breeds like goldens, labs and huskies. It also is more common in females than males.

Is there anything to do about it? Propalin wouldn't help?

Ectopic ureter
Surgery helps in 50 -75% of the cases but it didn't with this guy.

I can't help but think laser surgery might be more successful than the traditional resect and suture. Any chance they would be willing to see another surgeon ? Guelph maybe ?
As for removing the diaper, I can relate. When Ceili was at the worst of her her whizzer troubles I used a type of adult human "Depends" (Belted Shield) which look like your basic disposable diaper except they have button holes at each of the hip corners and come equipped with elasticised "belts" with buttons. Anyway... I crisscrossed the belts under her belly and over her back and around her tail (the tail of course is the the problem with traditional diapers). I got mine on sale (why does every goodlooking guy in Toronto have to be in line at the drug store when your buying adult diapers ??? ![]() Me ? I'd be looking at a second surgery using laser. |
