Bowl movements

Our cornish rex male cat has recently started to use our bed,his bed and the floor as his kitty litter box for his bowl movements.He seemed to be having problems with his movements,leaving small pieces on the floor so we were advised to give him 1-2 teaspoons of raw pumpkin a day. He loves the pumpkin and the problem has gone away except for the floor problem. There have been no changes in his routein. We use a holistic vet and Simon is on food made at home.His is approxamately 12-14 years .We are not totally sure as we were lucky enough to be given him. He runs and plays like a kitten, is very affectionate and gets lots of love.His kitty litter box is cleaned 1-2 times a day.PLease help!!

Cats often avoid the litter box to signal discomfort. For example, if he is constipated and goes in his box, he may feel pain. He then thinks the litterbox is causing this pain, so avoids the box. The real problem occurs when this behavior has gone on long enough to make it a habit with the cat to go elsewhere.

I suggest you take this cat to the vet. At this age, it could be a number of things causing this problem. If the vet gives him a clean bill of health, we have some suggestions to get him to use his box again.

Thank you so very much for your reply. We will definately take Simon to our vet but could you give me some of the solutions you suggested that you know. I am new to using a bulletin board and am not sure if you would be the one to answer if our vet cannot solve the problem.
