Any shedding/brushing tips or tricks?
My husky is at that yearly stage again when his beautiful winter coat is coming out in clumps. We usually just deal with it by daily brushings with a bristle brush called "le Salon". Does anyone favour a particular type of brush or product for grooming their huskies, Malamutes, etc? I know some husky owners who recommend a shaving at this time of year (not completely shaving, just down a bit), but my guy is older and has never been to a groomer, so I do not want to cause any anxiety in him.
Any suggestions, in particular brush suggestions? Thanks! |

You could call around and find a groomer that would come to your house that way you could be there with the dog and he is in his house that he is familiar with. I would recommend getting him shaved becuase it will cut back on all the hair and it will make him a little more cooler.

I use a greyhound comb and slicker brush and a few other combs some really wide tooth ones and a really small one for face and bread brushing I make a mix of conditioner and water (helps getting out matts)...
Then I get alot of grips and do the hair in sections moving the other hair out of my way as I go. Spray a little conditioner mix onto the area and working from the belly up to the mid back you want to get right to the skin with the comb otherwise you are just working the ends and letting the skin area get taut. So brush from the end of the hair and work your way in until you have got right up to the skin, holding the hair as you do it to stop any undue pressure to the dog. When you get to a matt try take it apart with your fingers first and then work the comb through it... above all do this in stages as if he is badly matted he will be a bit tender and all that tugging will make him sore and cranky so give him lots of breaks do a few sections at a time and lots of praise for being such a brave boy. If you look up grooming on the net there are many sites... http://www.northerngroomers.co.uk/siberian_husky.htm http://www.petgroomer.com/Grooming10...rian_husky.htm these will point you in the right direction too... |

Brush in the reverse direction working from the rump (rear end) to the head. Back combing/brushing gets the clumps out from underneath.
If he's not afraid of the vacuum, get to work LOL
