My planted pond raft

I have all winter to think about how to make the styrofoam look better and how to give the plants more planting depth next year, but for the most part I'm liking it a lot. The fish love having the raft for cover and I love being able to plant some of my favorite annuals like portulaca. I don't have many places to plant annuals anymore other than containers so this has been a fun project.

That looks great! I love the colours.

I did that a couple of years for my pond too. Then I got a water lily and it took up all my surface area. *S* (I need a bigger pond....)

Did u plant the annuals using soil or pebbles?

Debbie

That is gorgeous!! Gives just the right pop of colour. Portulacas are one of my favs too. I didn't get any planted this year. First time in years. Thanks for sharing! I told hubby to check it out too so if we ever manage to get that pond in.............

It's a soiless mix actually. Topped with a special type of water garden soil so the planting mix doesn't wash away during a heavy rain. Kitty litter would work just as well as long as it wasn't a scented type. I have 3 water lilies in the pond as well so the fish have lots of cover.
You can never make your pond too big though. This is our third pond, had to resize larger twice.

Such dramatic colors! I love it! Eye candy. And a clever idea.

The boys don't try to take raft rides, though, do they?

Ha, ha. I was afraid of Bentley trying to take a raft ride, but he's set one paw on it a couple of times and doesn't like the fact that it'll sink and or move if he does, so he stays away from it.

I'm not sure how the plants would take the chlorine, but it would look pretty wouldn't it. I don't remember seeing pics of your pool Chico2, hot weather supposed to be coming the next few days, a few pool pics would be nice.
