vegetable boxes

I was wondering if anyone knew where i could buy largeee boxes to grow stuff in or the supplies to build them. me and my mom aren't exactly handy to the point where we could build our own.


The ground in my yard is too gross to plan vegetables we could eat. I live in a townhouse and have a fenced in yard and want to get like .. giant flower boxes that I can just put on the ground inside my yard and plant vegetables and stuff in them so my neighboors can't mess with them or let their dogs pee/poo on them

Any advice? I'm big on gardening but this is my first spring in my new house so I don't know how to get this done.

If you've got some reasonably flat ground that gets at least 8 hours of sunlight every day, I'd go straight to raised beds. You can make them as small or as big as you want (depending on the amount of space). Make them sufficiently narrow so you don't have to walk on the garden itself and can easily work it from each side.

When it comes to filling your boxes, buy a load of good quality topsoil, it might be a bit expensive but it will give your garden the best possible start. And buy one of those plastic composters - they don't cost much - and start making your own soil with clippings and leaves from the garden itself and vegetable scraps from your own kitchen.

If money is an issue, you can grow almost anything in old barrels, wooden boxes, big plastic storage boxes. For things like tomatoes and pepper, they need to be 2-3 feet deep to accommodate the root systems. Other things, like lettuce and herbs don't need so much depth. Plants in these smaller containers need regular fertilizing over the summer, excellent soil and the same amount of sun, 8 hours a day at least of sunshine.

Thanks! I've got a concrete patio thats level and gets sunlight in from the early AM to about 3-4 in the afternoon. It's level and theres enough room to do stuff. I already recycle all scraps from my kitchen and make large compost piles.. moms been doing that since forever.

Cost won't really be a proble I mean as long as its liek like 500 dollars for a box or something.
