Candy Canes & Pooches

Ok.. I admit it I give my dogs rawhides. They are such wiggle butts when I come home with them... I swear they smile like the smiley!
I let them chew till they get soft and then take them away, let them dry up, then give them back again (only when I'm home). Bad dog owner {slaps hand}.

My fellow really enjoys rawhide as well. He only gets them in the evening while we watch TV, when we are able to sit and watch him with them. He usually devours them in no time. I find the ones with knots are worse for a choking hazard than the retriever rolls.

I must say, your pooches are awfully cute, and they seem to be really enjoying their treats!

Very cute Bugsy... from what I heard as long as they're not swallowing big honkin pieces they should be fine! And if you're taking them away when they get soft, you should have no probs!

Happy Doggies
My Duke loves raw hide but when I started taking them away when they got too soft every time I would give him one he would hide it for later when Mum wasn't around so I had to stop giving them to him.
Now I give him raw bones from the St. Lawrence Market. 1.29 a lb. can't beat that. Comes out to about .89 per bone.

Some say do some say don't. Duke really loves them. I get them about 4 - 5 inches long. Getting the marrow is a real challenge that most dogs love. Initially I thought it was tooooo yucky but he loves them. He will be at it for about 2 hours depending on the size of the hole. Generally there is a wider opening on one side and then it narrows. You can get them fresh and raw from most butchershops/markets.

Yes, she is a long haired Saint... and she adores the snow. Both my little buggers were having a field day in the yard when we had our first snowfall last week. They dove in head first. What is it with dogs and sticking their head in the snow? They came back in soaked!... but Ohhh so happy with themselves.

I'd love to see a photo of Jayde if you have one

I can't give the beagles rawhides, because it makes them high.

I gave it to Willy once (well technically he stole it at grandma's house) and he was CRAZY.

Never again will he have them... allthough he really loves them. It seemed like he was high for 2 days and didn't sleep at night!

What's wrong with giving them rawhide? We've given Daisy a few of them without any problems. Is there something I should know?

Well what can happen is once the rawhide softens,it can get lodged in the throat.Same with the rawhides that have the big knotts at each end. When giving dogs these, they should be supervised while chomping on them.

When Yukon and Tron were pups,I gave them what I think was called Chewzz.Something like that. They are about 4-5 inches long and about 2 inches wide.Well Yukon and Tron started to gag.I had to pull it out.It was all soft. Then and there I said no more.I wasn't going to chance it happening again.

It just doesn't break up well once it gets moist.Like a dog bone(treat) would.

I never realized!! We give them to Daisy all the time. I guess the thing is she devours them usually in one sitting. Thank you for explaining! We'll definitely be more aware from now on! (Bad doggy-daddy! Bad!)
