smelly litter box

I have a huge problem. I have had my cat for about 3 years and i just adopted a friend for her. He is a 6 month old taby cat and he is adorable. The only problem is that his fecies smell up my whole apartment!! I've never smelled anything like it. My cat who i've had for 3 years never had a problem like this. Any suggestions? Is there something i can feed him so this doesn't happen?? Or special litter i can use? I have an electronic litter box, i thought this would help because it cleans the box everytime kitty goes to the bathroom, but it doesn't seem to help at all. What should i do??
