Is it still the case? Does she get killed if no one adopts her?

I did a quick search after reading your post and it seems like a few people have been saying that.

I'm seriously considering adopting her back...

I just answer on your other post...
Did the dog had a collar? A tag?
Did they gave you some papers stating you brought the dog?

There was a collar (with cheetah dots, in case the owner is reading this) but no tag unfortunately...

they gave me a paper that said I brought the dog.... it just says the breed of the dog, approx. age and that's about it....

Wow 7777 it is so obvious you want to do the right thing here

I have no first hand knowledge of Berger Blanc but, like you, what I have heard leads me to believe they are not always above board. Is it possible to swing by there tomorrow and see if this pup is still there? Maybe you could try a rescue instead?

Please keep us posted. My fingers are crossed that it is not too late

I'm planning to call them to see when we can get the dog. They initially told me that they will keep the dogs for 5 days before it goes see the vet and then up for adoption. We're planning to get the dog and bring them to the SPCA of Monteregie instead. We'll support the dog if we have to.... I just hope that the SPCA of Monteregie will take the dog even though it's from Montreal...

There are also several foster based rescues in Montreal (Rosie's, Sophie's) who may be able to help, especially if you are able to temporarily keep the dog as a foster until they can find someone else, they provide materials you need and fully vet the dogs etc... Monteregie seems like a good option, but it also outside the city which makes it harder for potential adopters to reach if they don't have their own transport (which is why I've never been) but they do seem easier to adopt from then the Montreal SPCA.

The owner of the pup may be also looking for it.If the person doesn't know where to look they will never find the pup.
You can make a poster and post it in stores and vets...

7777, yes Berger Blanc is a high kill pound.

When you find a dog, they will keep him for couple of days. If no one claims him, they will do an evaluation on the dog. That will determine, if he's "adoptable"

If they claim he's not adoptable for the slighest reason, they WILL euthanise him. If not, they will put him in the adoption area.

St-Hubert is not too far from where the dog was found (more northern). Anything is possible, people tend not to know their breeds too well in Montreal I find, it may have something to do with the abundance of dogs available and people who let their animals breed indiscriminately... but the lost dog was male and this dog was female. So likely not it.

Berger Blanc is a pound and is high kill. You can ask them to put a do not euthanize on his paperwork and to contact you if need be. More than likely they will ask for an adoption fee.

There are many rescues that would accept this dog if you can get him out.

Thank you for even considering taking him to spare his life.

Best to you.

Thanks for the responses.

I called Berger Blanc this morning and they told me that I can pass by during the weekend to see if the dog's still there and we'll be able to adopt her...

I'll try to call the phone number that you guys posted (most likely not the owners, but just in case...).

We're still considering what we should do if we can get her back. We would love to keep her, but she has separation anxiety and keeps barking when we're gone to work/school. We live in an apartment and we wouldn't want the dog to disturb the neighbors..

Did you ask Berger Blanc to put a "do not euthanize" on her file.

In the event that you cannot keep her, maybe by private messaging BenMax, she might be able to steer you towards some rescues, since she is highly involved in the rescue field.

BenMax - Hope I haven't stuck my neck out here

Not at all Chris21711 - you know me. How can I say no.

Absolutely 7777 please feel free to contact me if you need help. Infact there is a solution other than the SPCA if you cannot keep.

I must say that it is refreshing to meet someone that is concerned and is asking questions.

Indeed a very highly adoptable dog. There are so many rescues that would love to have this little one. Separation anxiety is not too difficult to work with and a home that can cater to this dogs needs can be found.

Quick update.

I was telling a colleague about the dog's story and another colleague overheard and told me that her dog has the same problem. She bought a small device from Canadian Tire that emits an ultrasound when the dog barks. Since then, her dog stops barking when they're not at home.

I had the anti-bark dog collar for the dog and it doesn't seem to work. I'll definitely try to get the dog back over the weekend and try that device. Let's hope that it works.

I didn't call Berger Blanc about not euthanizing the dog yet because I don't have the paper that they gave me when I brought the dog in.

I called the person who lost a dog (posted by shriley1011) and sent him the pics. He haven't replied my email yet, so I'm assuming that it's not his dog...

Yea, she's only 1-2 years old. Very very very good dog. Playful, obedient and loyal. There's nothing more you can ask for a dog.

Do you know anywhere (website, etc) that have a good guide on how to deal with separation anxiety?

Personally I can't help you on that one. If you open up a thread in the Dog Training part of the forum, many here have experienced separation anxiety and you should be able to receive all kinds of tips. IMO Terriers are really, really smart, they learn quickly and anything would be preferable to a bark collar

Congrats on your new addition and thank you for rescuing her (a second time!!) You are truely an amazing person for being so dedicated to her!
You will find under the Training and Behaviour thread lots of advice on SA. I found several threads very helpful when I rescued my hound. The key to success for us was to leave Nitro alone for very short periods of time. During the day he is in the basement (where he gets his breakfast, has water, toys, a kong and his crate that he sleeps in). I would put him there with his breakfast and leave (without making a big deal at all, almost indifferent so he doesnt pick up on my energy). I would then wait outside. Once I heard him bark I would come back in and sternly tell him "NO Barking" and send him back to his area. I would repeat the process until eventually, after about 2 days, he doesnt bark at all.

I do leave a radio on and a fan as well, to drown out noise since we are in a townhouse and the radio seemed to help him relax... Good luck with your pup!!
