Question which COLLAR is best for large breed?

Chocolate only wears a collar for the i.d. tags... I use a Gentle Leader for his walks.

It's time for a new collar as the holes on the nylon collar are getting stretched out.

He's about 68Lbs and wears something like this:

is the adjustable longer lasting...

how bout a leather collar?

any other suggestions?

we have had our current leather collar for about 4 years, our old one would still be here if it wasnt for a big roll in dead fish offal destroying it by making it smell just absolutly disgusting. but we only use ours for id as well occassionally (we have microchip for id) and for tying up at friends barbeques ect. and it looks like it will go on forever (as long as no more fish offal incedents) but it has faded a bit

I use the break away collars as I'm quite paranoid after hearing about a little fellow who watched his shepard dog hang himself. The dog was playing on a slide and the collar got caught the dog fell ...and well the rest is history. My dogs love to go into the bush and sniff stuff...I don't want them hung up on branches.

I really like leather collars...my long haired dog wears a rolled one because it doesn't mess up his mane as much.

thanx for the link, amaruq!
.... $18 US for shipping ALONE!!!

the Gentle Leader is like a mouth harness.

instead of having control of the dog's neck, we lead the dog with it's mouth... my dogs are pointers... scent dogs, so naturally they are guided by the smells of other things.

what better way to walk a dog than to have the most control surrounding his head... rather than neck or body (Chocolate's tried body harnesses & failed miserably... he tried pulling away from me by standing on his back legs as horses when they jerk back, lol)

anyways, here's a link, it's a WONDERFUL tool to use...

I've even tried the prong collar but after... 6 months? I lost control & Chocolate stopped acknowledging & would let the collar rub against his skin so hard it started to bleed!!!

the choke chair could never work bc the pointers have loose skin around their neck thanx to their bloodhound relatives

all in all, those types of collars depend on the shape of the dog's skull & neck... or body as the other harnesses work,

Carina, I just spotted the link, thanx!! I was going to try & find it after my ramble
