New member with an aging dog.
I have a mixed breed about 40+ lbs that my vet describes as an athlete. She is however now 16 years old and I want to make her last days, weeks, months, or more as comfortable as possible.

Does your girl have a nice orthopedic mattress to lie on? Some of our older dogs have done well with just the regular waffle-foam orthopedic products on the market. Our old black lab did better on an old child's mattress. One of the advantages is that you can cover it with sheets over a moisture proof mattress cover to protect the mattress if your dog is having bowel or bladder issues--makes for much easier cleanup. We just kept the mattress on the floor by our bed (the lab was too stiff by then to jump up on our bed anymore, but still liked to sleep near us) and he slept on it all night and napped on it during the day. We'd love to see pictures of your girl if you have any to post! |
