Table Scraps!!!!

Is it bad to feed your animals table scraps. I have heard both sides some say not to and than others say that it is fine. Not as all their food but if you are eatting and they want something.

A year ago, I would have said No Way. Now that I am feeding raw, I have been known to give the girls some scraps. Depends on what it is and what is in it though.

I prepare my dogs meals and there is no dog kibble in my house. The girls get vegetables, meat, yogurt and a couple of supplements daily. While meat is usually chicken leg quarters, we also have beef heart and ground turkey in the house. Once a week they get mackeral.

I do not feed my dog table scraps - if she's lucky she gets like a french fry and that's it. I don't know about giving bowls of scraps - I just assume that it could cause digestion problems, pooping problems, bloat etc...

If you are going to feed your dog scraps it's important that it's not directly from the table. Dogs are pack animals be nature. If your dog begins to eat at the same time as you they will begin to assume that they are equal and things can change around your house, and not necessarily for the better. If you eat first you are the leader, then when you're done your meal your dog gets the scraps - in their bowl - after you have left the table and clean up is done. This will give them the message that you are the boss. Then there would be less chance for confrontation...or food aggression.

That is cool (that is what I thought you meant but I did not want to keep going without knowing) so why do you make all their meals? Is it because of health reasons or because it is healthy for them? My cat eats dry food than a can of wet food through out the day (sometimes not the whole can) but than when we sit down for supper he goes over to my husband and beggs (he knows he will give in). I know there is not way possible he can be hungry he just loves to eat so I was wondering if it was bad. Food like a little piece of pork chops or steak, fish, salmon, he loves green beans and peas and corn and things like that. He will even eat an olive if you will give him one. He is so funny, that is his hobbie EATTING! LOL Thanks for all your help!

Does the same principal apply for a cat?

I do give my dog small portions of leftovers, but not scraps. To me, scraps are something that is inedible to us - gristle, fat, etc. and I dont' give my dog those.

I eat relatively healthy food - chicken, fish, pasta, and always save a bit for my Chloe!

NO. Cats are not social animals and have no rigid hierarchy, and all are equal. Actually, cats already think they are superior to us, so it doens't really matter - LOL!!
