Blister-like "nubbin" between toes(NOT URGENT. SEEING VET TOMORROW AM)
I was sitting with Layla just now, and she was gnawing on her foot A LOT. So I thought I would check it out (look for a cut or something) And I found this sort of blister-like lump between her toes. (Photos attached) It doesn't seem to hurt her unless it's touched firmly and directly, it just seems like its annoying her really. When I touch it, it's more solid than a blister, and it isn't oozing.
I called the emerg vet, and they said it can wait til the morning. (I expected that, but really just called to ease my nerves.) Any ideas on what it is? So I can sleep tonight? |

First off... Ewwwwwww.
Secondly, do you think it could be either inflammed from allergies, or maybe there is a piece of glass in there that is infected? Thirdly, ewwwwww. I hope it goes well at the vet. |

I agree on the ewwwww. Fortunately I have a box of about 500 non-latex rubber gloves, (which I am currently wearing as I type. You can never be to safe with these computer viruses these days )
I thought about glass... it's not the same foot as she cut, and she's only been gnawing on it tonight. When I was at the vet last week, he looked at all of her paws, so nothing was wrong then. I don't think it's allergies, because it's really localized. I'm so torn right now, because if it was on me, I would already have drained it with a syringe, ripped it open and cleaned it out. But I just can't make Layla suffer through that. I kind of want to take her to the emerg-vet even though they said I don't need to, and I know I don't. And this day was going so well for both of us too.... |

Awww. I'm sorry... Do you really think it's full of pus? You don't think it's a growth or anything?

Hmm I think there is some puss, but I don't think it's all puss... It kind of smells, and is more tender than I thought, so I think it's infected. I just don't know how it showed up out of nowhere. She was JUST at the vet, and she was fine then (well besides the cut).
I swear my vet is going to have a new house and car, and a trip to the Carribean this winter because of me. |

LOL In the beginning, my vet was making a fortune on me, too...
Smells, eh? Smells like what? This is the other foot, right? Not the one that got the glass? Maybe there's a tiny shard in there, and she is uncomfortable so she licks and the licking causes infection? |

It's the other hind foot from the one she cut, but the vet inspected it too when he saw her. It smells pretty cheesy, which is a sign of an infected sebaceous gland (keratin smells like cheese).

I just hope that this foot episode won't scare her about people touching her feet.. I can't imagine getting a needle in an already tender place...

all of these foot things have actually made her better with having her feet touched. She never used to let anyone touch her feet, even the vet had problems clipping her nails. But now she lets me clip her nails (which NEVER would have happened 9 months ago) and she lets people touch her paws all they want.

What vet do you go to? |

A little update: Those lovely pictures were of an interdigital cyst, of currently unknown cause. The vet took skin scrapings and bacterial cultures, and will get back to me if they come up positive for anything. Since the problem can't currently be treated, the symptom was; the cyst was surgically removed, and Layla is now on oral antibiotics. She is feeling much better now As is my vet, now that his wallet is full

Poor Doggy!!! What a hard life she is having this week! Do you have enough cookies and canned food?

I know, I feel pretty bad
Let's just say that if she isn't fat after this week from all of the "special treats" she's been getting, it will be a miracle |

Glad to hear your doggie is on the mend even if your vet will be living it up down south this winter. Did you get your vet to give you a script or does s/he include them as part of the visit? With the scripts, you can shop around...

thanks everyone, she's feeling much better
The prescription step is bypassed, and I just get the meds straight from the vet, so no shopping around. But the meds aren't very expensive anyways, I can't imagine them being more than 2-3$ less elsewhere. |

ewwwwww. I'm glad she's getting better. You're getting the mass tested? So in about a week, we'll have the results?

Well technically they'll only call me if there is something notable in the results, but I'll call them and pass on the info.
