need help picking dog food

my dog is 14 months old blue healer female used to like pedigree but wont eat it anymore. so i went and got Performatrin Ultra and now after reading about it i am not sure if it is a good choice but the dog dos like it. so i am thinking maybe to get CANIDAE or should i stick to Performatrin Ultra any info would be great. i am just not sure about Performatrin Ultra because some reviews say the dogs get sick. so in the end whats the better choice.

3 first ingredients are :

# Chicken
# Chicken Meal
# Whole Brown Rice

in my book , it's good I can't comment on the rest of it but other members who knows more , might help you with the rest of the ingredients. But like I said , in my book , it all looks pretty good.

Here's the ingredient list:

http://www.performatrinultra.com/dog/ddi_chicken.htm

There's too many grains imo and also don't know why they have to add so much salt (sea salt and solium selenite) and tomato pomace is an inferior product that includes the skins which may have pesticide residue. But the ingredient I really don't like is the menadione sodium bisulfite complex which is banned for human consumption as it is believed to cause cancer.

I would recommend Orijen or Acana Provincial ....

Orijen is an excellent choice Loki was on the Regional Red formula for a while, but we have recently changed to Evo Red Meat instead.

What does your cat currently eat?

A better choice than feeding another dry food would be to switch to wet food instead. Cats really need to get moisture with their meals, and even the very best kibble is greatly lacking in moisture (10% or less, whereas cats should be eating foods with 60-80% moisture). More info here for you to check out: www.catinfo.org

"Liking" it and it being good for him are not synonymous. In that case, the Orijen would be a huge improvement (way less starch; higher quality protein). I would still urge you to switch to wet food though. Please read the link I posted above, it's quite an eye-opener.

It depends on your dog. My dog has a bit more of a sensitive stomach so switching back and forth didn't work out well for him. I have heard of lots of people doing this without any problems at all - so it's really up to you

You can, but like Loki Love said it depends on how your dog's stomach reacts to change. I have one dog that has a very sensitive stomach so I don't like to change his food often. However, in general, I would recommend it... I personally like to switch up the dog's food to offer variety, and also by switching the food it can help reduce the risk of the dog developing allergies (dog's often develop allergies to meat proteins that they eat alot in their life - i.e. why most dogs have allergies to beef and chicken but not novel proteins like rabbit, duck, or lamb).

Sorry for taking so long to reply but I'm having computer problems.

No, I wasn't saying that your dog would get sick from it. I was just pointing out that some of the ingredients are not ones that I like to see.

A good website to check out for ingredient information is www.dogfoodproject.com and click on all the links on the left hand side of the page like "Ingredients to Avoid" and "Label Information" etc.

Another website with great information is www.dogaware.com

Wellness is a great food. I personally think foods should be switched around regularly anyway, even from day to day if your dog/cat can handle it without intestinal upset. If not, a more gradual switch from bag to bag over several days may be preferable.
