Pet-Shop Puppies!

Rally against puppy mills
When: Sunday, March 18, 1 p.m.
Where: Jarry Park, Montréal, Québec

The puppies in pet store displays are adorable-wriggling balls of energy just waiting to jump into customers' arms. But there is an unseen, darker side to those doggies in the window. Most pups sold in stores come from hellholes called puppy mills, where mother dogs and "studs" spend lonely lives in miserable cages, producing litter after litter, like so many widgets off an assembly line

I just found this,if anyone in Montreal is interested in going
check out this site,interesting.. http://miliceanimalemilitia.homestead.com/

Pet shop puppies

I have never heard of this group and wondered if others who live in Quebec had. I did see something on television about this protest but only caught the tail end.

I think it's a fairly new organization (under a year old) founded by Nicole Messier. Their mission is pretty black and white as described on their website. http://miliceanimalemilitia.homestead.com/ I've contacted several people involved in animal welfare (shelters, rescues, etc) and was told that many are going to the rally in support for a call to an end to animal cruelty and puppy mills in Quebec.

Protesters planning to rally for better animal protection
The Gazette
Published: Sunday, March 18, 2007
About 250 protesters - many of them with their dogs in tow - are expected to gather in Jarry Park this afternoon to draw attention to the suffering of animals in puppy mills across Quebec.

Protest organizer Nicole Messier said the group wants to see the provincial government establish an organization that makes the interests of domestic animals its priority.

"There's a youth protection agency, why shouldn't there be one for animals?" Messier, of Militia for Animals in Quebec, said.

She added that the animal rights activists are frustrated by the lack of enforcement of Quebec's existing animal protection law, known as P-42, by Anima Quebec, the provincial agency now responsible.

The protest, she said, will begin at 1 p.m. at the canine park in Jarry Park at 289 Faillon St. W.

To know more about Marcell the reason this organization has started who's the soul of the Militia for @nimals in Quebec along with all the other victims of greed please view the following strong video message. Please support this rally and be part of the solution!!!

I hope that all the Pets.ca members that are from Montreal and surrounding area show their support by attending this important rally today.
Together We Can Make A Difference,
We Are The Voice For The Animals In Need,
Thank You,
Hug all your furbabies today!

It was a much smaller turnout than I had expected (maybe 100 ppl ? + a dozen or so pooches) but it was a great opportunity to meet others involved in animal rescue. Many #s were exchanged and new contacts were made amongst those that had attended. There are several demonstrations/walks in the planning in the very near future. We should be hearing about them soon.

Yes. I managed to convince my son to do a good deed and to replace me at work while I snuck away for 2 hours.

TQS? I think that's what I saw in the side of one van. Otherwise, I only saw one camera man and two photographers.

Maybe it was TVA? Isn't TQS a sports network? I was a little distracted looking for someone I was supposed to meet and then got busy being introduced to others.

Thank You So Much, Lucky Penny for attending the rally and showing your support. 100 people is better than none for the introduction of this new group, Militia For Animals in Quebec rally.

Frenchy, you are doing your part by taking such great care of Nelly, Thank You.

Together we will make a difference,

I don't know if you had one in Montreal, but in Toronto yesterday, there was a St Patrick day parade, maybe it factored in the smaller crowd??
Then again,Montreal is french,not very Irish,right
Still 100 people is much better than 20
I hope this group will have a voice and continue to grow.
Thank's luckypenny!

Actually, an estimated crowd of 250 000 showed up to celebrate St. Pattie's Day in Montreal. I think everyone is Irish in Montreal during the parade .
