My cat died today.

Oh, I am so sorry, what happened?

I think it varies on whether you want your pet to be cremated by itself and the ashes returned. I had that done to Snowball and I think it was about $200, but emotionally I was such a mess, that I could be wrong. DH took care of everything.

She had a blockage and we were to late takeing her to the vet. It's so hard to tell when cats are sick. I feel terrible I didn't notice anything earlier. She was only 5 years old. If we do have her creamated we'd probably want spread he ashes.

Sorry to hear about your kitty
I think it is about $140-$240 for a cremation with ashes returned, depending on where you go and what type of urn.

Depends on if you choose a private cremation (only your pet), or a communal cremation, which costs less but your pet is cremated with others and you don't get the ashes back. Here in Calgary, it cost me $150 to have my cat privately cremated a few years ago.

I am sorry

I had both of mine cremated and I bought two little wooden boxes from the dollar store and decorated them...they are in my bedroom...I was going to spread their ashes, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it...seemed it was so final...

I paid about $150 for Jaeger and $175 for Mooki...

So sorry to hear of your loss. I have had 3 kitties cremated and their ashes returned. They were private cremations which meant that you know the ashes returned to you are those of your pet, and I have heard from local pet cemeteries that the company I used is reputable in that regard.
I cannot remember exactly how much it was but for some reason the figure $300.00 sticks in my mind. That is likely just a round up number though and I would estimate around $250.00 in the GTA area. Does your vet not know the price of the crematory he/she uses? They usually will handle the transfer and return of the remains.

Thanks for all of your reply's everyone. I called my vet and they set me up to have her creamated and sent back to me in a very nice cedar box with her name engraved. It cost $212 which I think was a good price and well worth it. She'll be back with us on wednesday of next week.

P.S. Should I be worried about her sister, she was missing for a day an a 1/2 and we just just found her under our stairs.. everytime you call her name she meows loudly and I called and called and she never meowed back, i had to venture under there and grab her. Any tips on makeing her feel better? I've been giving her lots of attention and playing with her.

Thanks again

Her sister is going to need a lot of attention, but not necessarily "doting"...animals can sense sadness and it adds to the anxiety they feel when they lose a loved one too...give her some time...give her some hugs...she may even not eat much, so give her some special food like tuna, salmon or raw steak pieces...just remember she is just a little person covered with fur

Akira. I just read this and am truly sorry for your loss.

You shouldn't remove your other cats items immediately (such as bowl, toys, blankets, whatever.) Leave them in their places for 2 to 3 weeks and slowly remove them from their spots one-by-one thereafter. This way, her little sister will still have her scents and visuals of her things left around.

I'm so sorry to hear that. When I worked at my vet clinic it costs $80 for the procedure. I recomend it because those that weren't cremated where just taken to a dump and placed in bags. Very heart breaking wanted to pay to get them all cremated but couldn't afford it.
