Question what can i do!

we breed miniature schnauzers. We ahve always kept one male, but we recently got another. One of our females is in heat and she got out of her cage and got hooked up to the other male, she has been hooked up to both. Can a dog hav puppies from two different males? How do i tell which father is which? HELP!

Yes, two males can fertilize one female at the same time. I think you're going to have to ask your mentor breeder for help on this one. We're a very pro-spay neuter board.

Aren't you only supposed to mate a pair once? I thought ethical breeders did that now. Breed once, then see what the offspring are like. I definitely do know you're not supposed to use the same stud over and over again though.

Yeah, I guess the obvious answer is to have her spayed asap.

Actually, most breeders these days have only one stud, that they use over and over. We only have 4 females, and we breed them only once a year. We skip a heat each time. Having her spayed is not an option.

This sound so so wrong ! In case you haven't notice yet, this is a very pro neuter/spay board. You won't get any help here. And BTW, if you choosed to breed dogs, you really SHOULD know the answer to your question.

That is not true at all. Most UNETHICAL breeders who are in it for the money do that. You are obviously not trying to better your breed. Just sickening. Schnauzer lover, my hiney. More like "Schnauzer Paycheck".

I agree with prin, that's how puppymills and backyard breeders operate, but not ethical breeders.
Many good breeders don't even breed their females with their own stud, they hire one with good genetics who has been proven in order to better the breed. It's unusual for a breeder to have a female AND a male in the same household that have proven themselves good enough to breed together.

If you don't know that a female can have a litter fathered by more than one stud....then you shouldn't be breeding.

Thats nice of you I am sure your dog enjoys giving birth once a year. I agree with the general consensus of this thread. Why are you breeding anyways?
